Who won Eurovision 2021?

THE long-awaited Eurovision 2021 returned this evening after a two-year hiatus.

Italy were crowned the winners, and James Newman for the United Kingdom sadly got zero points.

Who won Eurovision 2021?

Måneskin – Italy

The winner of the Eurovision Song Contests 2021 was Måneskin, an Italian rock band, who started out busking on the streets of Rome.

The band’s track Zitti E Buoni scored 524 points, while the UK came last for the second year in a running, scoring zero points.

France came second, and Switzerland third.

Måneskin are made up of vocalist Damiano, bassist Victoria, guitarist Thomas and Ethan on drums and their name is the Danish word for ‘moonlight’ – since Victoria is from Denmark.

But their win didn’t come without a hitch – firstly, lead singer Damiano accidentally split his pants during that energetic winner’s performance.

And not in an un-obvious way – right in the crotch, front and centre.

He then was forced to deny taking cocaine live on TV after appearing to lean over the table and do a snorting action,

Måneskin lit up the stage with their bare-chested, punk-funk rock which they sang in their native language.

It was Italy’s third Eurovision win and its first since 1990.

The UK was the only country to not gain any points

The band shot to national recognition on the eleventh season of X Factor Italia in 2017.

So far, they’ve collected seventeen platinum records and six gold records in Italy.

Who won Eurovision 2019?

The winner of Eurovision, held on May 18, 2019, was Duncan Laurence for the Netherlands.

His song Arcade garnered 492 points – and it was the first time his country had come out on top for 44 years.

Italy came second (465 points), with Russia just edging out Switzerland by nine points to take third place.

The UK, who this year would have been represented by James Newman, finished in last place.

What does the Eurovision winner get?

According to Eurovision, “The winner will perform once again, and take home the iconic glass microphone trophy.

“The winning country will traditionally be given the honour of hosting the next Eurovision Song Contest.”

Bizarrely, there is no prize money for winning – just the honour of the title.
