Teen Mom Jenelle Evans insists husband David Eason is NOT homophobic but would ‘rather not’ hang out with gay people
TEEN Mom alum Jenelle Evans has insisted her husband David Eason is not racist or homophobic, but would "rather not" hang out with people who identify as gay.
, a father of three, was in 2018 after he posted tweets many fans found offensive and hateful toward the LGBTQ community.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, , 29, defended her husband's controversial behavior.
The mother of three said: "David has nothing against gay people, or trans people. He'd just rather not hang out with them."
However, Jenelle added that he's always "nice and respectful" when he has been around the LGBTQ community in social situations.
She also said the comments that got him thrown off were "blown out of proportion."
"It was a question about his parenting," she explained.
The question was about if he wanted his children around a certain type of people, and he was like, 'I'd rather them not.'"
Back in February 2018, a fan asked David, "Are you going to teach your children to hate gay and transgender people?"
David responded: "No, I'm going to teach them not to associate with them or be that way. If you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas."
MTV said at the time: “David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV.
“With six weeks left of production on Teen Mom 2, effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him.”
In the interview, Jenele also defended David's including his argument that using the n-word is not offensive.
He also has been slammed by Teen Mom fans for hanging the .
Jenelle said: "I know the Confederate flag issue to him is it's his heritage. It was the north and south going to war and that's their flag.
"Him looking back on the research and everything, he even shows it wasn't about slavery necessarily, it was about the war. That's how he looks at the Confederate flag.
"David has grown up around Black people all his life, and those are all his best friends.
"In the county where he lived, he was the only white person. So anyone to say he is racist at all is completely false."
After the couple's separation in 2019, Jenelle said they are now in a much better place in their marriage- and David has supported her in her
She said: "I think things are going super well between me and him, he is really supportive when it comes to this custody case, and I've been really upset about it all.
"He knows when to help me with the kids, like if I'm really upset and I need to walk away for five minutes and he is like, 'Don't worry, I got the kids.'
She credited the separation with saving their marriage.
Jenelle said: "We've been getting along pretty good. I think it's because I took that break and went to Tennessee and after I came back, we set boundaries for each other.
