Is Piers Morgan going back to GMB?
Piers Morgan has revealed that ITV bosses have contacted him over a shock return to GMB.
Piers revealed: “They reached out — there have been approaches. Never say never.”
It follows a ratings slump since Piers, 56, left the ITV breakfast show in March after refusing to apologise to Meghan Markle.
The presenter said: “I have no doubt I could take the ratings back to where I left them — but the doubt is, would anyone be allowed to do it that way again?
“I was hired to give very strong, honestly held opinions, which I did. But in the end I was asked to apologise for a genuinely held opinion.”
On May 26, 2021, Piers Morgan was actually back on GMB, however he was just a guest on the show as he joined former co-host Susanna Reid to make a plea for votes at the National Television Awards.
Viewers were urged to vote GMB as Best Daytime Show at the upcoming awards' do.
When did Piers Morgan leave Good Morning Britain?
On March 8, 2021 Piers stormed off the set after he was slated by co-star Alex Beresford for his comments towards Meghan Markle and her Oprah Winfrey interview.
Then on March 9, 2021, ITV released a statement to confirm that he had QUIT the breakfast show.
The statement read: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."
An ITV source said the controversial host was asked to apologise on air and he refused which "ended with him telling producers he would not host the show any more".
They added: "“His contract was coming to an end this year anyway, but he said he wouldn’t do the job unless it was on his terms."
A day after he quit Piers tweeted that "freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on".
He also quoted Sir Winston Churchill referencing free speech and signed off by writing: “I’m off to spend more time with my opinions."
