The presenter revealed her ordeal on the ITV show today as they aired footage from her fall captured on her home CCTV.

Alison, 46, told co-host Dermot O'Leary today: "It was actually quite a bad fall you know. I can’t get up there because I think I've broken my leg.

"It was absolutely awful. Can you see, Mark has patched me up today.

"So yeah it was a trauma. Not only that then this vein came on the back of my knee. I was like oh my God I've got a DVT.

"I went to the doctor and the doctor was like ‘you really need to go to hospital.

"So then I'm in hospital for seven hours... They patched me up. Did some tests, it wasn't DVT.

"No DVT, it was just a vein and I'm getting old."

She added: "It's the second time I've fallen on those tiles.

"It's an over reaction but I have actually changed them, I've dug them up, something with a bit more texture."

Dermot admitted he was concerned for Alison when she entered the ITV studio this morning to prepare for the show.

KNOW THE SIGNS: What are the warning signs of a blood clot?

There are different types of blood clots and different symptoms, here we take a look at several different blood clots and the signs you need to look out for.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in one of the deep veins of your body, usually in your legs.

The signs and symptoms of a DVT include:

  1. Swelling, usually in one leg (or arm)
  2. Leg pain or tenderness
  3. Reddish / blue skin discoloration
  4. Leg (or arm) warm to touch

The signs and symptoms of a Pulmonary embolism include:

  1. Sudden shortness of breath
  2. Chest pain-sharp, stabbing; that may get worse with deep breaths
  3. A rapid heart rate
  4. Unexplained cough, sometimes with blood-streaked mucus

Another blood clotting condition is thrombocytopenia, which is when your blood platelet count is so low that the blood is not efficiently clotting when it needs to.

In rare cases, the number of platelets can be so low that dangerous internal bleeding occurs.

The signs and symptoms of thrombocytopenia include:

  1. Easy or excessive bruising (purpura)
  2. Superficial bleeding into the skin that appears as a rash of pinpoint-sized reddish-purple spots (petechiae), usually on the lower legs
  3. Prolonged bleeding from cuts
  4. Bleeding from your gums or nose
  5. Blood in urine or stools
  6. Unusually heavy menstrual flows
  7. Fatigue
  8. Enlarged spleen

He said: "I was looking down and you had this open wound, this gash on your leg."

LloydsPharmacy pharmacist, Anshu Kaura recently explained that Deep Vein Thombosis is a blood clot which typically occurs in the leg.

Speaking to The Sun she said: "It is more likely to occur if you are over the age of 60, overweight, smoke, have had DVT previously, take the contraceptive pill or HRT, have cancer or heart failure or have varicose veins.

“As well as the above, there are some temporary scenarios that may make you more at risk of DVT such as, being confined to a bed, going on a long journey (more than three hours), are pregnant or dehydrated.

“There are various symptoms of DVT to look out for, such as throbbing or cramping pain in one leg (typically in the calf or thigh), swelling, warm skin and red or darkened skin around the painful area or swollen veins that are hard or sore."

If you think you have DVT you should speak to a doctor as soon as possible, she added.
