GOOD Morning Britain viewers branded host Alastair Campbell "sour" today and accused him of spoiling the mood after England's Euros win.

With co-star Susanna Reid and the rest of England in a state of euphoria after last night's historic win, Alastair struck a more measured tone.

He insisted "I'm going to try and get into the spirit of it" but criticised captain Harry Kane and said his penalty was undeserved.

Scotland supporter Alastair, 64, griped: "‘Not the best penalty he's ever taken. Well it wasn’t a penalty!

"Come on, be fair. Let’s be objective about this, it wasn’t a penalty."

Captain Harry Kane's effort was saved by keeper Kasper Schmeichel, but he pounced on the rebound and slotted home.

Susanna Reid said it was the best football match she'd ever seen live, while Burnley fan Alastair said their were echoes of England's Euro '96 semi - which they famously lost to Germany.

He also tried do a 180-turn away from the England fanfare and pay tribute to the Danes, but he was stopped in his tracks by Susanna and Kate Garraway.

Susanna said: "You're like Kasper Schmeichel, any little bit of joy trying to get in the back of the net you're there trying to stop it."

Viewers weren't impressed by Alastair's analysis, with one writing on Twitter: "Could not have picked a more negative 'Anchor' man to have on after the fantastic England win!!

"Why Alastair Campbell… really taking the enjoyment out of such an amazing day and result."

Another posted: "Great feel good story and @GMB have Alastair Campbell putting his wet weather weekend opinion on. What a way to sour the mood."

A third wrote: "Cheer up Alastair Campbell or get off the show."

As another said: "I wish just for today there was another presenter this morning! Alastair Campbell has been so negative about England’s win and the fans… Just not right."

However, Alastair wasn't the only one to question the spot kick.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho said it was the wrong decision as did many other footy fans watching at home, who voiced their opinions on social media.
