LEGENDARY quiz show Never Mind the Buzzcocks is making a return - nearly seven years since it last aired.

The music-themed comedy programme, which ran for 28 series, will switch from BBC to Sky and NOW when it comes back this autumn.

It will be hosted by Inbetweeners star Greg Davies, who follows the likes of Simon Amstell, Mark Lamarr and Rhod Gilbert.

Previous team captain Noel Fielding is returning in the same role, but long-running colleague Phill Jupitus has been axed with This Country writer Daisy May Cooper stepping in.

The Sun told last year how the broadcaster was planning to reboot the show after a period in the doldrums.

A source said: “It’s a tried-and-tested format and one Sky were delighted to bring back.

“Greg is perfect for the role, Noel is in his rightful home and Daisy is a great addition to the cast. Everyone can’t wait to get it on air.”

Each week they will be joined by a roster of top music and comedy stars to compete against each other. Viewers can expect the unpredictability of the original series, with some of the best known and loved rounds remaining, alongside some new surprises thrown in along the way.

Little-known comic Jamali Maddix is also on board as a regular guest.

One of its popular features was the Intros Round which saw captains hum the start of the song while their teammate guessed it.

Greg Davies said: “I have always loved Never Mind the Buzzcocks and am thrilled to be the new host on Sky. We have brilliant comedic talent on the team and plenty of exciting musical guests will be joining us.

"All that being said, I’m so sure that no one reads these press quotes in their entirety that I’m going to finish by listing types of bread: rye, sourdough, sliced white. Oh, and cob.”

Director of Sky Arts and Entertainment for Sky, Phil Edgar-Jones, said: “Buzzcocks is one of those truly iconic shows and to be bringing it back with Greg Davies at the helm, alongside Daisy May Cooper, Noel Fielding and Jamali Maddix is a buzz and a treat for lovers of tuneless humming everywhere.”
