Gossip Girl fans slam student-teacher romance between Max and Rafa as ‘f***ing disgusting’ in reboot series
GOSSIP Girl fans are none too happy after watching a teacher, Rafa, hook up with his student, Max, in the newest episode of the HBO Max reboot.
Viewers slammed the romance as “f***ing disgusting” and begged the show to stop “romanticizing” student-teacher relationships.
On the new , Max (Thomas Doherty) has been trying for a few episodes now to get his teacher Rafa (Jason Gotay) to sleep with him, with them appearing naked in front of each other a few times.
Max found out Rafa would be at a bath house and showed up there to try to make his very naked teacher jealous and did so by (Evan Mock).
Fans took issue enough with this and were unhappy Rafa eventually let Max know he was even attracted to him, by saying they wouldn’t hook up until Max graduated from school, despite the student trying to convince him by saying he’s legal.
In , Max once again saw Rafa naked when he followed him into their school’s shower room, and, high on pills, he said the teacher should sleep with him or he’ll tell everyone he did anyway.
Rafa was able to get him out of there, but the two, who had been getting close due to the teacher helping Max emotionally work through his dads’ crumbling marriage and cheating scandal, eventually gave in to each other.
At the end of the episode, Thomas’ character went to see Rafa at his apartment, crying because his dad blames him for revealing his cheating and looking for comfort, which the teacher gave him, saying “f*** it.”
the two of them getting together because no matter Max’s age, he’s still Rafa’s student and there’s still a major power disparity between them.
“Bc even if Max is 18 that’s still so nasty bc why is a grown a** man interested in a high school student,” one angered viewer tweeted. “Someone give these teachers a hobby, it’s obvious teaching isn’t enough for them.”
Another wrote: “This teacher student relationship is such a big no. Why let max hook up with the teacher #GossipGirl”
