A Place in the Sun’s Jonnie Irwin baffled as guest burst into tears – and then begs for forgiveness

A Place In The Sun host Jonnie Irwin was left baffled after bringing a guest to tears - before they begged for his forgiveness.

On Tuesday’s episode of the Channel 4 show, Jonnie was joined by guests Sam and Elaine, from Bolton, where he introduced them to an idyllic holiday home near the Carcassonne, France.

The duo was searching for a holiday home with plenty of space, and had a budget of £225,000,

But the host was left bewildered after one property left Elaine in tears – albeit “tears of joy.”

As the trio arrived outside property number three, Elaine suddenly began crying and a shocked Jonnie turned and asked: “Are you crying?”

Husband Sam quickly explained that Elaine had a tendency to cry at big events like weddings, funerals, and everything else.

Clearly enamored with the property himself, Sam agreed that Elaine had a very good reason to cry, especially after Jonnie told the couple the three-bedroom chalet was on the market for £219,000, which was well within their budget. 

Wiping away her tears, Elaine replied: “You are joking aren’t you? I thought this would be at the top end of our budget.”

But as they looked around the home, Elaine found herself getting overwhelmed again, and the tears kept coming.

 “I’m sorry I can’t believe I am [crying], it’s just lovely. I really like it,” she told Jonnie.

“I can just see us putting stuff in here. I wouldn’t normally go as modern as that fireplace, but you could certainly work with it.”

She later added: “This has more or less everything we wanted. I think you [Jonnie] will struggle to find something better in my eyes so it will be interesting to see what else.”

Clearly chuffed that he’s found them their dream home, Jonnie said: “When I see a property that makes owners so emotional they burst into tears, it’s going to be hard to beat.”

After touring a few other properties, Sam and Elaine put in an offer but their first offer was declined.

Sadly, viewers didn’t get to see if the couple managed to get their dream home, as the episode ended with Jonnie explaining that they were still negotiating with the owner.
