THAT'S A BIT AWKS!

Piers Morgan sits behind stony-faced ITV chief at cricket just hours after bitter spat over Meghan Markle GMB Ofcom row

PIERS Morgan found himself in an awkward situation after sitting behind ITV’s stony-faced chief at the cricket – just hours after their bitter spat over Meghan Markel’s Ofcom complaint.

The presenter watched the second day of the test match between England and India behind a grouchy ITV boss Kevin Lygo.

TV firebrand Piers, 56, initially looked a bit put out to be sat so close to his old boss, just hours after launching a scathing attack on his former employer.

Piers even joked to pals that the situation was awkward, but was later seen in good spirits as the match got underway.

He was seen checking his phone and laughing with pals, after previously boasting that he plans to “go global” with “much bigger things.”

Talking to the Daily Mail the opinionated star said his new project would be revealed within the coming weeks, and that he would not return to ITV without a public apology.

The former Good Morning Britain host reignited his bitter feud with the broadcaster after Ofcom ruled that he was within his rights to give his opinions on the Duchess during a heated debate on the show back in March.

Piers stepped down from hosting the programme after saying he didn't believe Meghan was telling the truth in the bombshell Oprah chat.

He blasted ITV for a statement that was released after the decision this week, telling them to read the ruling again.

ITV said co-star Susanna Reid, as well as "programme makers", had provided the "balance and context" that was "key in mitigating against the potential for harm and offence caused by Piers".

Posting a furious rant online, Piers said: "Hmmm, ITV have just put out a statement saying I only won the Ofcom case against Princess Pinocchio because my colleagues expressed different opinions to mine.

"That’s not what the Ofcom report says in its conclusion. I suggest ITV reads it again."

Piers’ wife Celia Walden even joked “please have him back” after an appearance on GMB.

'PLEASE HAVE HIM BACK'

But his former co-host Susanna Reid confirmed that he will not be returning to the show.

Celia appeared on the show to promote her new novel Pay Day - but started by joking with hosts Susanna and Ben Shephard by begging: "If you could please just have him back."

Celia also hinted her husband may be snapping up a new job soon, telling GMB: "'He's got some irons in the fire.

"I don't think he's going to be kicking around the house for much longer."

As the interview ended, Susanna sent her regards to her former presenter - before Celia joked: "'Anytime you want him, he's available. Just let me know."

'HEAD ON A PLATE'

Confirming that Piers wouldn't be returning to the job, Susanna Reid said this morning: "He tweeted 'does this mean I get my job back,' but ITV effectively said he's not coming back.

"He's been inundated with offers, particularly after yesterday, so I'm sure he's got plenty of things to consider.

"We don't have Piers on the programme this morning, not because of a restriction on freedom of speech.

"We do have his better half, Celia Walden and she has written an absolutely terrific book about a ruthless man in the workplace with whom his colleagues have a love-hate relationship."

Piers previously said Meghan had written directly to ITV chief Dame Carolyn McCall demanding "his head on a plate".

The royal complained to ITV after Piers said he didn't believe her claims to have had issues with her mental health, or that she was suicidal when pregnant with Archie.

In the interview, Meghan told how life as a royal became unbearable and she "didn't want to be alive anymore".
