PIERS Morgan has continued lashing out at the National Television Awards, this time saying the crowd was indeed cheering for him.

Thursday's NTAs was his final opportunity to win an award for his work on Good Morning Britain.

When his name was read out as a nominee for best presenter during the live broadcast, many in the audience booed him.

But Piers today played back the moment which included a clip of him grilling Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Good Morning Britain at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

Videoing the clip from his phone, Piers played in his own defence claiming more people were cheering from him than the boos he received.

Piers captioned the Twitter post: "Last night’s National Television Awards… Love the boos being drowned out by cheers… Ronaldo gets the same crowd reactions."

He also added a smiling face emoji in sunglasses to the tweet.

Piers' video evidence comes after his furious reaction to Ant and Dec winning their 20th NTA for best presenters.

The former Good Morning Britain host, who quit the show back in March over a row over Meghan Markle, had been lobbying fans to vote for him in the category.

Unfortunately, despite his efforts, Ant and Dec took home the gong for the 20th consecutive year - and Piers made no secret he wasn't happy, believing he had done more in his role.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "Wow! What a shock! Congrats to Ant and Dec. Thoroughly deserved 20th consecutive win - the way they held those jungle contestants to account during the pandemic was absolutely brilliant."

"Just as well I’m not there," he added, alongside a GIF of his now iconic on-air walk-off moment.

However, in the press room afterwards, the Geordie duo didn't seem bothered.

“I don’t think we need to say anything about Piers Morgan," said Ant. "The room said it all when his name was mentioned.”

Dec added: “It’s not about him tonight.”

Throughout the pandemic, Piers was applauded for holding Government officials to account for their oftentimes confusing guidelines and updates on the coronavirus.

It would be his final opportunity to take home the gong for his work on GMB.

But it seemed Piers had a hunch that he wouldn't be winning tonight, snubbing the ceremony at the O2 Arena to watch it from home instead.

Ahead of the ceremony, he made his feelings clear about Ant and Dec potentially continuing their two-decade winning streak, believing they didn't deserve it.

"I deserve to win because everyone’s sick and tired of Ant and Dec automatically winning this award, which bears no relation to reality," he told .

"They’ve done nothing special in the last year, even they would admit that.

"I think it’s time the procession came to a shuddering halt and the Morgan bandwagon was rewarded with glory.

"We can’t have those two little vain-glorious Geordies standing there for the 20th consecutive year. Ant got one one year when he hadn’t even worked. It’s ridiculous."
