MasterChef’s Gregg Wallace and John Torode haven’t had a row in 30 years of working together — apart from over hair
GREGG WALLACE and John Torode take great pride in the fact they haven’t had a single row during their 30-year working relationship.
But I can reveal there’s one subject that causes some beef between the MasterChef judges — and that’s hair.
Gregg has been openly mocking the Jack Grealish-style curtains John has sported during the current Celebrity series, saying he was tempted to “bring in a rubber band and put it in a top knot”.
But Aussie John has bit back, saying Gregg is only jealous because all he can do with his scalp is “polish it”. Speaking during their TV Biz takeover ahead of tonight’s final, John told me: “I tell him I have a few grey hairs and Gregg says ‘I’ll do anything to have some hair’.
“But he doesn’t need to buy shampoo or have a hair cut. He must have saved a fortune over the years.
“He also doesn’t have to worry in the morning. He goes, ‘There’s nothing there, I’ll just polish it’.”
On the comparisons with his hairspiration, John — married to ex-Holby City actress Lisa Faulkner — says: “If I look like Jack Grealish then brilliant. Everybody I know loves Jack Grealish.
“But if I wore an Alice band my wife would just laugh at me. They look good for anyone under the age of 30, but once you get to the autumn years like I have, the idea of wearing an Alice band looks a bit odd.”
This Celebrity MasterChef series is the 16th John and Gregg have presented together.
They knew each other previously when Gregg sold fruit and vegetables to John’s restaurant.

Yet despite their long association, and the fact John was best man at Gregg’s wedding in 2016, they still haven’t visited each other’s houses — which are 70 miles apart.
But Gregg says it’s no big deal. He explains: “Everyone else expects us to be as close outside of work but we need to give each other space.
“If I had the slightest issue with anything I would call John. But I have no idea where he lives.”
