Vigil viewers blast string of ‘pathetic’ blunders as they brand season finale ‘a total let down’
VIGIL viewers have blasted a string of 'pathetic' blunders as they brand the season finale 'a total letdown'.
The BBC show stars Suranne Jones as DCI Amy Silva, who is sent in to investigate the death of Craig Burke (Martin Compston) on board a Trident nuclear submarine.
As the series came to an end last night with its sixth episode, some tuning in were not impressed as they watched the action unfold.
The episode started with Amy still stuck in a torpedo tube, screaming and shouting as it filled with water.
Her oxygen levels start to drop, but the character remembers her Morse Code training to tap out a message on the torpedo door and she's eventually saved by Lieutenant Commander Mark Prentice (Adam James).
He then ends up getting stabbed to death by Russian spy Matthew Doward (Lorne MacFadyen).
One unimpressed viewer wrote on Twitter: "Thumping, kicking and screaming - nothing.
"Tapping gently in morse code - OMFG SOMEONE IS IN THERE #Vigil."

Another added: "No one picked up her screaming or banging earlier but now she’s tapping Morse Code they’re picking it up… RIIIIIGGGGHHTT #vigil #vigilbbc".
Among other twists and turns in the script, Matthew revealed chef Jackie Hamilton has been told to kill Craig, so he could come onboard.
But it wasn't enough for some viewers who had been faithfully watching all six episodes.
One posted online: "Little bit let down by the ending to be honest. All seemed very rushed but glad she got out of the tube. #Vigil."
A second raged: "What a load of twaddle!
"So unrealistic and the ending was like a squib fizzling out with no explosion or effects."
They were even less impressed to see Detective Sergeant Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) arrest Ben Oakley during the land investigations - and then go on to interview him on a street bench.
One viewer pointed out: "So police arrest people and question them on a bench in the street? This is so far fetched #Vigil."
Another tweeted: "#Vigil this is getting really stupid now. Arrest a suspect and interview him while sat on a bench. Then the dc is locked in a flooding torpedo tube and shouting. I was thinking tap tap. Eventually cap goes to investigate, next minute he's back in command centre. Just pathetic."
But some viewers had nothing but praise for the series from the makers of Line of Duty.
A fan commented: "I loved the ending to #Vigil, I think it was all tied up nicely."

Another mused: "No idea why anyone is whinging about vigil it was good drama from 1 to 6 not like we sat for 8 years for a awful ending. #vigil".
