Inside The Great British Bake Off star Juergen Krauss’ life off camera after wife and son make cheeky cameo

JEURGEN Krauss has become a firm fan favourite since his debut on the 2021 series of The Great British Bake Off.

From a bread roll in the shape of a baby to a huge free-standing gingerbread windmill, he’s wowed viewers with his baking prowess.

Jeurgen, 56, has already been awarded the coveted ‘star-baker’ title twice throughout the series, which started last month.

And the baking star – who was originally born in Germany and brought up in the Black Forest – has been captivating fans with his life at home too.

Jeurgen gets busy in the kitchen when he’s not working as a Database Administrator, a job which he’s been doing for the past 18 years.

He moved to the UK in 2003 with his wife and family – who have also made a brief appearance on the BBC cookery show in a recent episode.

Before become a database expert, Jeurgen worked as a physicist, and often uses his scientific skills alongside his baking knowledge to create top bakes.

He told the GBBO that he fell into baking after struggling to find traditional German bread near his home in Brighton.

Jeurgen went on to bake plenty of delicious goods for his colleagues, who encouraged him to apply for the competition last year.

On his Instagram, the avid baker is often seen whipping up cakes and biscuits in the kitchen, including a wedding cake for a close friend.

The star also has a passion for music, and plays the sackbut – a type of trombone which was commonly used in the Renaissance period.

This week, Jeurgen found himself at the centre of a ‘fix’ row as it was announced that it was ‘German week’.

Outraged fans accused the Channel 4 show of favouring contestant Jürgen, who moved to the UK in 2003 but is originally from Germany.

In a short teaser, the baker was shown grinning as he got to grips with the German-themed tasks, and schooled his competitors on the language.

However, some viewers believe that Jürgen, who has won Star Baker twice so far, will be at an unfair advantage.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “German week? Fix!”

Another fumed: “German Week !! No questioning who will be star baker then. They should all do a Vegan week to see how difficult it is for Freya.”

A third agreed: “I wonder who will be winning German week…”

The Great British Bake Off airs on Tuesdays from 8pm on Channel 4.
