As Kate, 54, and Ben, 46, chatted to regular guests Jacqui Smith and Iain Dale about the latest news stories, the mobile ring tone loudly pinged.

The mum-of-two looked alarmed and quickly turned it off, before explaining it was a news alert.

Tickled Ben looked amused and wondered why she was getting news alerts to her mobile when she worked on the news.

He couldn't help poking fun at her and said: "The good news is there is some breaking news on another news channel!"

Kate replied: "I'm sorry. I find it quite useful when I'm not on air!"

Wearing glasses on today's show Kate had earlier revealed she'd had a tough week and her eyes were sore after a few "long days".

The TV star - who is also a carer for her husband Derek Draper - said: "What it is I think is I've had a few really long days recently, and I always wear contact lenses."

Thankfully, GMB show medic Dr Amir Khan was sitting beside her, and explained: "If you've been wearing contact lenses there is a risk of a scratch on the eye, or inflammation of the eye.

"You may need drops to stop an infection getting in. But see me later."

Viewers also noticed Kate's new look today, as one tweeted: "Is there something different about Kate?" while another wrote: "Kate needs to push her glasses up closer to her eyes or get smaller frames".
