GREAT British Bake Off viewers were left in tears tonight after vegan baker Freya Cox was sent home.
The 19-year-old hopeful was the first vegan to ever enter the GBBO tent and worked hard to adapt some recipes accordingly.
However, after failing to impress the judges during German Week, Freya was axed from the Channel 4 show.
The psychology student was left in floods of tears after learning her fate - and viewers found themselves welling up, too.
Sharing their upset on Twitter, one fan tweeted: "I’m actually crying at Freya leaving #GBBO."
Another wrote: "I seriously had tears in my eyes, we're so gonna miss Freya, she's done so well to come this far #GBBO."
A third added: "Freya was one of the most beautiful contestants on #gbbo Now, I'm sobbing."
'ROBBED'
Others were left angry at Freya's departure, especially as fellow contestant George served up a raw yeast-leavened cake as his Showstopper.
"Freya was robbed... can't quite see how that was justified :((( #GreatBritishBakeOff," one viewer said.
A second raged: "#GreatBritishBakeOff don't agree with the decision to get rid of Freya, should have been George as he served raw dough."
A third fuming fan even declared: "Nooooooo! Not Freya. That’s it’s I’m not watching anymore."
Following her exit, Freya penned a sweet letter to fans and thanked them for her support.
In the letter, which was shared on Bake Off's official Twitter account, she said: "Golly gosh, where to start. This was by far the best experience of my life.
I feel genuinely blessed to have had the chance to share my love of vegan baking with the world."
Freya, Great British Bake Off
"I never imagned to meet so many incredible people in such a short amount of time.
"I feel genuinely blessed to have had the chance to share my love of vegan baking with the world.
"If I have inspired just 1 person to give being vegan a go, that is more of a success to me than winning any day of the week... it's not that much of a faff I promise."
Signing off, she finished: "Biggest thank you to everyone. Lots of love Freya."
All is not lost for Freya, however.
The Sun Online has revealed that the teenager is being lined up for a string of book deals showcasing her vegan creations.
