LARKING ABOUT

The Larkins fans have a big demand after huge romance twist in ITV finale

FANS of The Larkins have taken to social media in their droves begging the series to return for a second run after Mariette and Charley finally made a go of their relationship.

The show's finale aired last night and wrapped many of the character's storylines, including Pop (Bradley Walsh) and Ma Larkin (Joanna Scanlan) adopting another child, Oscar.

However, viewers were most excited to see Mariette (Sabrina Bartlett) and Charley (Tok Stephen) give their relationship a chance and travel to France together.

Although they always had a spark, it seemed they might miss their chance as things kept getting in the way of their relationship.

Mariette then decided to go to Paris, despite her family protests, and it didn't take long for Charley to decide he was going to join her.

After the episode aired, many took to Twitter to share their delight that Mariette and Charley were able to make a go of things while others immediately called for another series.

One penned: "Please tell me I wasn’t the only one who celebrated Mariette and Charley? It only took 6 episodes but we finally got there #thelarkins."

"Absolutely loved The Larkins. We weren't sure we would enjoy it as much as the original but we have & hopefully look forward to series 2," another added.

The viewer outcry for another installment comes as a TV insider believes that ITV are commissioning another series – after deeming it a hit.

The source said: “The Larkins has turned out to be the Sunday night hit they hoped it would be. The show has got around 4million viewers an episode.

“But they have been thrilled by the fact it’s been watched by almost an equal number on the ITV Hub.

“Bradley (Walsh) is particularly enthusiastic about a sequel because he’s very much taken ownership of the role of Pop Larkin.”

Although ITV have yet to announce anything, the broadcaster previously revealed that a Christmas special has been commissioned.

Speaking on The One Show earlier this year, Bradley Walsh, revealed that filming for the festive episode was already underway.

He said: “We’re making the Christmas Larkins in Kent. We’ve got all the snow - honestly, it’s amazing, absolutely tremendous, Brilliant, brilliant.”

Meanwhile actress Joanna Scanlan, who plays Ma Larkin, has said to expect the unexpected from the season special.

During a press event for the new series she revealed: “It’s not necessarily what you would expect from a Christmas special. It has lots of twists and turns.”

The Larkins follows the lives of a working class family as they go about their lives in a small village in rural Kent.

Although the Larkins are kind people who are always trying their best, they're constantly met with challenges from nosy neighbours and snobby authorities.

Much of the novel and original show focused on Mariette Larkin, one of the daughters, who gets caught in a love triangle.

Mariette is caught between Charley, an accountant new to the village, who has been sent there to investigate her family's tax affairs, and the mysterious Tom Fisher.
