Asked if he and Ant were still in contact and friendly, Foxy, 45, said: “We’re always in contact, but I haven’t spoken to him for a long time – we’re busy doing everything else – he’s over in Australia, while we’re over here doing this one.”

Asked if the show lacks something with Ant gone, he added: “No, not at all.

“The show is in the military, so you have a high turnaround of characters because the military is like that, and you just carry on doing what you need to do.”

Foxy has just finished filming the show’s latest celebrity version, with ex-EastEnders actress Maisie Smith, sprinter Dwain Chambers and reality TV’s Ferne McCann in the team.

But it was Ferne’s former Towie colleague Pete Wicks that surprised him.

He said: “I thought he was going to p**s me off, but I really liked him. Ferne was quite impressive for someone with her background.”

One previous contestant who didn’t impress him was Katie Price. Foxy said: “She wasn’t on it for very long.

“I don’t think she quite understood what she was letting herself in for.”
