In an exclusive interview with , Richard shared an alarming discovery he made during the production of the episode.

Richard was asked if any of the presenters would admit to having owned a French car.

“I don’t think we have,” he answered. “There aren’t that many and French cars fit in with the French way of life.

“The most disgusting thing you can do in France is to clean your car on the driveway on a Sunday morning - that would be appalling behaviour, they’d die of shame.”

In this new Grand Tour special, James, Richard and Jeremy enjoy a spin in a series of French cars.

The presenters analyse the differences between English and French car culture including a humorous comparison of the condition the respective nations typically like to keep their cars in.

However, executive producer Andy Wilman assured fans any comparisons were positive.

He told the : “I hope fans will go well that is a fast, funny bit of a romp, an adventure because it's not a road trip.

“It's packed with stuff and you learn stuff about the French and I hope they get that we like the French - that we're not some Brexity people, that we actually do like it that's what I'm hoping.”

Andy pointed out that French car culture includes not being too concerned if your vehicle is dented.

He said: “It’s jealousy and love all the way. I think what is classically British is we sit here in England, giving our opinions about the French that's quite British.

“But they were affectionate ultimately so I think the French are going to like it.”
