Good Morning Britain, Love Island and controversial celeb surgery show are Ofcom’s most complained about shows of 2021
GOOD Morning Britain was the most complained about show this year as the media watchdog received a record amount of complaints.
This year was a massive one for complaints, with five shows receiving more than 80% of all TV complaints this year, despite the fact grumblings to Ofcom jumped 124% from 2020.
Good Morning Britain well and truly led the race receiving a total of 62,580 complaints and featured a whopping four times in the top 10 most complained about TV moments from 2021.
But it was one moment on GMB that made up a majority of those complaints and became the most complained about TV segment this year.
Former host Piers Morgan's rant about the now infamous Oprah Winfrey interview with Prince Harry and Megan Markle racked up 54,595 complaints to Ofcom.
And that interview itself was the fourth most complained about TV moment, with 6,486 reports to the media regulator.
The return of Love Island also got people annoyed with Faye Tozer's 'treatment' of Teddy Soares the second most complained moment of the year, with the Casa Amor postcard scandal coming in at number five.
Other than one controversial Channel 5 show called, Celebrities: What's Happened to Your Face?, ITV had nine of the top 10 most complained about shows.

A segment on This Morning called, 'Losing the Lockdown' pounds earned almost 2,000 complaints, while an appearance by Dr Hilary Jones on Lorraine about Covid vaccinations racked up almost 4,000 messages to Ofcom.
Covid and especially, Covid vaccines was one of the topics that saw viewers rush to Ofcom.
Another segment on GMB featuring Dr Hilary got more than 3,000 complaints.
Piers featured one more time in the top 10 at position seven, when TV fans were unhappy with him asking Charlotte Hawkins to stand up to see her skirt.
Ofcom recorded a huge jump on complaints and while it doesn't deal with issues about BBC shows, it showed the British public care passionately about their telly.
Adam Baxter, Ofcom's director of Standards and Audience Protection, said: "For me, these volumes demonstrate the British public’s interest and passion for TV and radio programmes, and shows just how important they are to the cultural fabric of our nation."
He added: "The judgments we make each day are often finely balanced – such as our highest profile case this year: Piers Morgan’s comments on Good Morning Britain in the wake of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
"But, given the importance of the right to freedom of expression, we only step in or take action against a broadcaster when we consider it necessary.
"This year we concluded 33 investigations and recorded 20 breaches of our rules. Many of these cases were about hate speech or harmful, scientifically unfounded Coronavirus misinformation."
