Doctor Who bosses ‘drop massive hint Jodie Whittaker’s replacement will be a woman’

DOCTOR Who has said goodbye to Jodie Whittaker as show bosses look set to replace with another woman in the lead role.

Jodie made history as the first female Doctor and started to say goodbye to the role in a special episode that aired on New Year's Day.

She had played the Doctor since 2017, taking over from legendary Scottish actor Peter Capaldi, who starred in the final three series written and overseen by Steven Moffat.

But the New Year’s Day special isn’t the end for her.

Instead, the Doctor becomes stuck in a “time loop” — repeatedly dying and coming back to life.

When Jodie's Doctor eventually regenerates – the process of "molecular readjustment" the Time Lords use to renew themselves – she will be replaced by a different actor.

The question of who will be the next Doctor Who is always a hot topic, but BBC have dropped the biggest hint so far that another woman will follow in her footsteps.

Leaked production notes from the BBC published on entertainment industry website, , point to the fact the 14th doctor will be female.

The production notes for the upcoming shoot read: : “A fantasy action saga of a mysterious alien time-traveller, Doctor Who, who picks up human companions, faces evil foes with little more than her wits and a sonic screwdriver and journeys throughout time and space in a police phone booth called the TARDIS.”

It's A Sin's lead actors, Olly Alexander and Lydia West are currently the bookies favourites to take on the plum role.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Lydia West is a firm frontrunner in the race to replace Jodie Whittaker, and the odds suggest it'll most likely be her or It's A Sin co-star Olly Alexander who gets the gig."

Their co-star Omari Douglas is another hot fave to take on the highly sought after gig, but the leak production notes indicate Lydia is the most likely option.

Omari Douglas made his TV debut in Channel 4 drama It’s a Sin earlier this year — created by returning Doctor Who boss Russell T Davies.

Writer Russell was previously in charge of the BBC One sci-fi show from 2005 to 2010.

He cast Christopher Eccleston then David Tennant in the title role having worked with them on earlier projects.

Lydia West has seen her fame soar thanks to her role on the series, It's A Sin.

The actress also starred in the highly praised BBC One series Years and Years.

Lydia originally trained in ballet, tap, jazz and contemporary dance as a teenager, but quit after a foot injury.

After graduating from university with a degree in business, she worked as a personal assistant and trained part-time at Identity School of Acting.
