Coronation Street fans stunned as they recognise famous new star – and his connection to soap legend

MONDAY's (January 3, 2022) Corrie episode took a turn when Faye Windass and Emma Brooker ran over an elderly man.

But as the pair - portrayed by Alexandra Mardell and Ellie Leach - helped the pensioner, viewers noticed a familiar face had been added to the line-up.

In a new episode of the ITV long-running drama, Emma decided to take Faye on another driving lesson, while recovering from a drunken New Year's Eve.

The outing turned sour when they ran over an elderly man crossing the road.

The newcomer named Ted left Corrie fans gobsmacked as they couldn't help but recognised a famous Yorkshire comedian.

Taking to social media, viewers claimed that Duggie Brown had unexpectedly made his way to the cobbles.

The actor rose to fame in The Glamour Girls and House of Cards, while he is most known for his appearance on The Comedians.

"That was nothing. I've seen Duggie Brown die a hundred times on The Comedians back in the day", one Twitter user gleefully commented.

"Oh no. Duggie Brown's snuffed it just before his Amazon delivery", another wrote.

"They've killed Duggie Brown! And he didn't get one last chance to tell the parrot joke!" added a third ITV viewer.

By appearing on Coronation Street, Duggie has followed in the footsteps of a beloved family member.

Duggie is the brother of Ivy Tilsley star Lynne Perrie, who also happened to be a Corrie legend.

The singer and actress was a star of the soap for 23 years, from 1971 to 1994.

Lynne unfortunately died in 2006 at the age of 74, after suffering from a stroke.

Unlike his older sister, Duggie's stint on Coronation Street was short-lived.

After being ran over by Emma and Faye, Ted assured both friends that he was fine and went on with his day.

But when the pair went to check on him in his flat during the second episode of the soap, both were shocked to find he had died.

Catapulted into a series of dilemmas and secrecy, both characters are forced to cover-up the accident due to Faye's previous incarceration.

Faye, who was behind the wheel during the accident, tries to adapt to life outside bars but is already walking on thin ice.

Released from prison on bail, she had been sentenced to three years behind bars after assaulting Adam Barlow (whom she mistook for Ray Crosby).

Her encounter with Ted and subsequent death could be her one-way ticket to prison only, this time, Emma might also be joining her.
