Elizabeth, 51, played a pregnant office worker with no filter called Anne in the BBC One comedy. Anne sat opposite Freeman's character Tim Canterbury.

In The Responder, she plays Chris' therapist. But during the third instalment of the five-part mini-series, she muddles him with another patient.

At the start of another intense therapy session, she asks Chris: "How's Helen?"

Looking confused, Chris - whose wife is called Kate - replies: "Helen?"

Smiling, she says: "Your wife?" But Chris remarks: "You what? No."

Looking alarmed, Chris' therapist gingerly calls him "James", to which he again curtly replies: "No."

Realising her mistake, the therapist quickly tries to backtrack and sighs: "Oh God, you're 4pm aren't you? I'm so sorry. I looked at the clock, as I'm running late, and I've picked up 4.30.

"Erm, I'm so sorry but I'm absolutely swamped. There's so many of you. There used to be two of us..."

Chris mutters: "I'm dying in front of you and you don't even know my name."

FAN FURY

Fans of The Responder were left furious by the therapist's mistake.

One tweeted: "Don’t believe his therapist would get him confused with someone else like that … #TheResponder."

Another wrote: "No psychologist would behave like that."

A third chimed in: "What a fantastic therapist, should be struck off the register #TheResponder."

And a fourth said: "Oh dear, awkward #TheResponder."

The Responder is written by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher, with the story following crisis-stricken, unconventional officer Chris.

In preparation for the role, the Black Panther star revealed he spoke to himself in a Liverpudlian accent for a year and a half.

He told : “I walked around for a year and a half, occasionally just talking to myself in scouse.

"Even though you're not always the best judge of your own thing, I do trust my ear.
