BIG Farming Adventure viewers were left shell-shocked after hearing a grisly story about how a farmer was eaten by his own pigs.

Monday night's instalment of the new BBC show starred Kelvin Fletcher and his wife Liz Marsland - and one of them got more than they bargained for when meeting a local farmer.

Having already brought a flock of sheep to the farm the week before, the farming newcomers were looking to add some pork production to their budding enterprise.

Liz went to meet a pig farmer to buy a number of animals to rear for pork farming, but she soon learned about the grim realities of living in the countryside.

In the segment, farmer Gilly revealed to Liz: "My father's cousin died in a pen of pigs, you know. There wasn't a lot left of him.

"He had a heart attack in the pen. He was eaten."

Liz, clearly taken aback by the revelation, questioned: "By the pigs?"

"They love it yeah," replied Gilly, before adding in an unphased tone: "They love a bit of meat, yeah."

Coming to terms with the admission, Liz uttered to herself: "Eaten by your own pigs - don't leave me in with the pigs on my own, Gilly."

Although the identity of the farmer on the show was not revealed, a farmer was eaten by his own pigs after collapsing from a suspected heart attack in Poland in 2020.

His remains were found by a neighbour, who went to check up on him after not seeing him since New Year's Eve.

With just a pile of bones and skull fragments remaining, it is thought that the animals devoured the farmer's corpse, which was found near the well.
