We converted a circus wagon into a home for just £5k after being denied planning permission for our dream house

A COUPLE who appeared on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces turned a circus wagon into a home after not being able to build their dream house.

Frankie Lord and Olivia Dann, both 28, appeared on the Channel 4 programme  to show off their unique pad in Penn, Buckinghamshire.

The couple spent just £5,000 to convert an old circus wagon into a stylish home complete with a decadent 'throne' toilet.

George gave them the idea to flip the wagon which is now complete with a double bed, kitchen area and shower room.

Frankie and Olivia had hoped to build their dream home on the land owned by his parents and spent the last few years living in a log cabin while they waited for the planning permission which never came.

In fact, they had not lived in a 'real home' for about 10 years and moved into the wagon only four months after they began to renovate it.

"I started the build at the beginning of March last year. I turned on the radio one morning and heard George Clarke stating that he was on the hunt for contestants for the newest series of Amazing Spaces," Frankie told

"I decided to send in an email… and then got a phone call later that day saying they were really interested. They came up quite soon after and followed me for about four or five months."

He added: "We absolutely loved taking on the project. It was absolutely incredible to have been taken on by George Clarke's amazing spaces."

Previously owned by Jolly Circus, the exterior is painted red and painted in yellow are the words 'Frankie's Circus'.

The couple kept faithful to the circus theme as they worked on the interior with colourful cushions, a red drum and ceramic lions.

They stripped the interior then separated the bathroom and living space with a dividing wall, after adding cladding on the floor and ceilings.

The wagon has a rustic feel with copper bathroom sink and matching shower head, matt black taps and the most bizarre feature – a golden throne over the toilet.

The couple also finished the bathroom with marble effect tiles on the wall.

In the kitchen, the couple used reclaimed wood for the countertops and a geometric tiling on the floor.

There are plenty of windows framed with copper, allowing in natural light.

"Before building the wagon we lived in a very small log cabin on our family farm," Frankie said.

"Unfortunately, we still don't have full planning permission so haven't been able to live in a real house for around ten years now.

"It's just been really nice to have a little place that we can call home. The response has been absolutely incredible. We posted some photos on van life on Facebook and received almost 1000 likes for the finished project."
