Morning TV star rich list revealed – from Susanna Reid’s bumper GMB pay cheque to Schofe’s £1m endorsement deal

THEY’RE the friendly faces who bring us our morning news fix and keep us entertained until lunchtime.

But who is winning the battle of the bank balance when it comes to the stars of morning TV?

Yesterday it emerged Ruth Langsford - who quit This Morning in December after being axed from the regular Friday slot with husband Eamonn Holmes - was laughing all the way to the bank.

The Loose Women star raked in over £2million last year, banking more than Holly Willoughby and over double the earnings of Phillip Schofield.

Here we take a closer look at the stars whose pre-lunch presenting jobs are bringing home the bacon.

Ruth Langsford

While she’s now left ITV's flagship morning magazine show, Ruth’s popularity with viewers has ensured the cash keeps rolling in.

As well as fronting Loose Women, she has a regular show on shopping channel QVC promoting a clothing range for 'the older woman' and the anti-ageing sun cream Ultrasun UK.

Together with Eamonn, she has used her pulling power to land lucrative ad deals, including a campaign with Revitive to promote a £300 foot massager which improves circulation.

Tax records for Ruth’s personal limited company Hey Ho Ltd suggest that last year she earned £2,092,863.

Eamonn Holmes

The Irish presenter - who claimed last weekend he was “at the top of my game” - was once among TV’s highest paid stars, earning £2.8million in 2011 for his roles on Sky News Sunrise and This Morning.

He took a pay cut in 2016, when he dropped his Sky commitments to focus on the ITV show, but his partnership with Ruth has allowed him to cash in on their couple appeal.

The pair raked in a seven-figure sum for their ad campaign Revitive and Eamonn bagged another lucrative deal with Age Partnership, which organises equity-release plans for homeowners over 55.

In 2020 he lost a fight with the taxman over a £250,000 sum, after he claimed he was paid as a self-employed freelancer by ITV, rather than an employee.

Eamonn has recently hit out at “sly” ITV executives who claimed he had walked away from This Morning in December to join GB News, insisting they announced he was leaving before he had chosen to.

Now co-hosting a morning show on the channel, his salary has not been disclosed but is thought to be a seven figure sum.

Eamonn’s company Red, White and Green held assets worth £1.3m in the year ending April 2020 but he is yet to file last year’s accounts. The couple share a six-bedroom mansion in Surrey with son Jack, 19.

Holly Willoughby

Holly, who started a modelling career at 14, is now the darling of daytime TV as well as the co-host of Dancing On Ice.

The 41-year-old mum rakes in a reported £730,000 a year for This Morning and the Sunday night ice skating show.

Holly was given a whopping pay rise in 2017 after it emerged she was being paid a third less than co-host Phillip Schofield.

But she has racked up some lucrative side hustles too, with product tie-ins and books bumping her annual income several notches above her fellow presenter.

She is thought to have pulled in around £750,000 from her Garnier ads, £950,000 from her Marks and Spencer fashion range and an estimated £1million for her Dunelm home edits.

Another £1million-plus has come from book deals and she can command over £25,000 for a personal appearance.

Accounts show Holly earned £1,373,695 from her company Roxy Media last year and the firm has assets worth £1,535,318 - with £1,634,000 in the bank.

Last year she also launched her Wylde Moon lifestyle brand, selling £450 necklaces and £65 candles, so next year's accounts are likely to show a healthy profit.

Phillip Schofield

Phillip’s ITV salary matches that of his co-host Holly and accounts for Fistral Productions Ltd indicated he earned £789,542 last year.

The 59-year-old star also fronts The Cube and Dancing on Ice, and earns an estimated £1m a year endorsing auto firm WeBuyAnyCar.

He pocketed £1.45m for his bestselling book, Life’s What You Make It, released in 2020 and also promotes a wine brand and a gin subscription service.

The presenter owns a £2m family house in Chiswick and a nearby flat which he bought for £840,000 following his split from wife Stephanie, after coming out as gay in 2020. Latest accounts show Fistral has assets worth £2.48m.

Alison Hammond

When she was in her twenties, Alison Hammond was so broke she was in the red every month and said she would say “Thank God” if her bank balance hit zero.

But her fortunes turned around after a stint in Big Brother in 2002 landed her a guest presenter role on This Morning.

Last year it was announced she would pair up with Dermot O’Leary to replace Eamonn and Ruth on the Friday shows.

Her This Morning salary remains unknown to the general public, but is thought to be around £600,000 - and last year she signed a six figure deal to collaborate with fashion brand In The Style.

Past bank-boosters include a stint on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, and a judging role on I Can See Your Voice in 2020. She also voiced the character of Frankenginger in the 2018 film Hotel Transylvania 3.

Dermot O’Leary

Dermot’s dual career on TV and radio has seen him rack up some whopping deals in the past.

After leaving The X Factor in 2014, he returned two years later with an eye-watering £8m paycheck, one of the biggest ever TV deals at the time.

His salary for This Morning is likely to be in line with Alison’s, but he has many other irons in the fire.

Dermot has been a regular presenter on Radio 2 since 2004, and has hosted Channel 4 shows including Big Brother. He was also the host of the National Television Awards from 2010 to 2019.

Collaborations include his own skincare range at Marks and Spencer, which earned him a six figure sum.

The 47-year-old is also a celebrity author, having landed a seven book deal for his Toto the Ninja Cat series in 2019, earning him around £500,000 so far.

Dermot’s personal appearances can net him £25,000 and his gigging company Ora Et Labora filed assets of £72,000 to April 21.

Susanna Reid

The Good Morning Britain presenter bagged the highest salary on TV when she signed a new contract with ITV in January - for a massive £1.1m a year.

The 51-year-old took advantage of Piers Morgan’s departure from the show and the end of her own contract, and “kept ITV sweating a bit”.

“She’s certainly played a strong negotiating game and it has worked out for her,” a source told The Sun.

Susanna, who has fronted the show since 2014, has now been teamed with Richard Madeley.

As well as her GMB work, Susanna was a finalist in Strictly in 2013, and regularly presents hard-hitting documentaries on ITV. Her most recent company records showed assets of £265,000.

Richard Madeley

The latest host of GMB was the original presenter of This Morning, with wife Judy Finnigan.

Last year proved to be one of the most lucrative of his 40-year career, with a £300,000 contract to share hosting duties with Susanna and a £200,000 pay cheque for I’m A Celebrity.

But the 65-year-old was forced to leave the jungle after a few days due to illness, and was not allowed to return because of Covid restrictions.

As well as a long TV and radio career, Richard has published several successful books including a joint autobiography with Judy in 2002.

He's also dabbled in presenting game shows, hosting the ITV series Fortune: Million Pound Giveaway.

Kate Garraway

Kate is the longest-serving star of ITV morning shows, having fronted GMTV and Daybreak, the predecessors to GMB, since 2000.

She is on an estimated salary of £544,000 for her work on the show, and has recently replaced Piers Morgan on the chat show series Life Stories, boosting her salary further.

Kate has also made two recent documentaries about the debilitating illness of husband Derek Draper, left severely disabled after catching Covid in March 2020, and published a book, The Power of Hope, last year.

The 54-year-old has presented a show on Smooth Radio since 2014 and in 2019, she was paid an estimated £50,000 to appear on I’m a Celebrity.

Naga Munchetty

Naga earns over £255,000 a year and a recent report also revealed that corporate work, outside of the Beeb, brought in more than £50,000 extra on top of her salary.

Naga was among the 100 female stars who fought for equal pay in 2017 and later said: “The outcome is that all four main presenters of BBC Breakfast are paid equally for their work.”

However Naga is also paid for work on Newsnight and the Victoria Derbyshire show.

Dan Walker

The highest earner on the BBC Breakfast sofa according to the latest BBC figures, Dan Walker earns £295,000.

A recent report showed he bagged £15,000 for work outside of the corporation in the year ending April 2021, including £5,000 to work as a moderator for St James’ Place Management.

But the 44-year-old also presents on BBC Sport and, until May 2021, fronted Football Focus, which accounts for the increased take-home pay, compared to his morning co-presenters.

And this year’s accounts are looking even rosier for the dad-of-three - after his stint in Strictly boosted the balance by another £25,000.

Despite giving shout-outs to sportswear companies in the past, Dan has recently banned branded content on his Instagram, which had 270,000 followers.

As a BBC journalist, Dan is forbidden to enter into commercial deals or promote brands.
