MASTERMIND viewers have been left in stitches by a 'fuming' contestant's 'walk of shame' after a costly mistake.

Monday night's edition of the BBC Two series was a semi-final, with the four contestants desperate to make it through to the Grand Final.

A contestant called Allister was fourth in line to take his place in the famous black chair, with his specialist subject being on all things relating to the building of Brooklyn Bridge in New York.

However, Allister didn't get off to as good a start as he would have liked, scoring eight points, which left him in fourth place going into the general knowledge round.

While he got off to a decent start, he came unstuck with a few questions including ones about Marvel and actor Ioan Gruffudd.

After host Clive Myrie gave him the answers to the questions he passed on, he revealed Allister had scored 17 points.

However, Allister didn't look impressed, drawing his lips tightly together before dejectedly walking back to his chair.

As he sat down, he pulled another tense face, leaving viewers in stitches at home.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "He didn't look very happy, cheer up chuck, it's only a quiz show #mastermind."

Another added: "He's absolutely fuming with that score #mastermind."

A third tweeted a gif of the granddad in The Simpsons walking into a room and then walking straight back out again and wrote alongside it: "Alistair ."

Allister's demeanor was in stark contrast to a contestant on last week's show who viewers branded an "absolute legend".

Patrick Wilson who stood out against the black background in a brightly coloured tie-dye shirt.

Patrick's specialist subject was 'Drum & Bass in the 1990s' and as Clive Myrie asked the questions, Patrick concentrated hard, squinting as he quickly thought about his answers.

One of his questions was: "What club night on Thursdays in Heaven in London with Fabio and Grooverider, founded in 1988, was key to the jungle and drum base genres?" which he got correct with the answer "Rage".

Viewers at home were loving Patrick's appearance and subject choice, and took to Twitter to heap praise on him.
