Richard Madeley is spotted in London after ‘going missing’ from Good Morning Britain for a week

RICHARD Madeley has been seen walking about in London after "going missing" from Good Morning Britain this week.

The smiling TV presenter was spotted leaving a recording studio while carrying items of clothing in his arms before driving off in his VW Beetle.

Richard, 65, has been taking time off from GMB this week with ITV bringing in  Martin Lewis and Adil Ray to replace him.

The I'm A Celebrity star is due to return to his regular presenting spot next week - and in the meantime has been enjoying the London sun.

Looking smart in a blue blazer and matching blue suit trousers, Richard completed his look with a white shirt as he exited the studios.

Carrying jeans, a blue jacket and white shirt, the presenter smiled towards the waiting cameras as he headed towards his car.

Winding the roof down on his white Beetle, Richard threw his things in the back before driving away in the Spring sunshine.

Looking animated, the star headed off to have lunch - while his presenting spot was filled by stand-in Adil, 47.

A spokesman for GMB explained earlier this week that Richard hadn't been scheduled to work this week.

Viewers were full of praise for Money Saving expert Martin Lewis' time at the helm as he grilled government ministers over the cost of living.

The financial journalist headed to Twitter to address calls from fans of the ITV show that he should become "more permanent".

"Many kind comments about me doing @GMB more permanently," he wrote. "Sadly the workload & hours mean its not compatible with my day job, so I can't do more.

"Shame, as I enjoy the challenge. Yet being the Money Saving Expert is m'calling & where I think I've most impact. I can't risk that."

Regular host Richard has often been divisive for viewers at home, with the star recently causing a stir with his comments over war in Ukraine.

When a reporter was talking to GMB live from the border between Poland and Ukraine Richard interrupted to ask which of the pizzas being laid on for the refugees fleeing the invasion of Ukraine was the favourite.

The host was quickly compared - not for the first time - to Steve Coogan's comedy character Alan Partridge.

Last week he was criticised for making a joke about Russia calling it a "no fry zone" after McDonald's pulled out of the country.

The pun was a reference to calls from the Ukrainian President to implement a No Fly Zone to stop Russian aerial attacks in the country.
