I was on MasterChef and the way the judges really taste the food is nothing like what you see on screen

MASTERCHEF is back, and it's got everyone wondering which parts of the show are real - and which are set-up.

The Mirror has reported that what actually goes down in the famous kitchen isn't as it seems, and that the food tastings are completely different.

The judges taste everyone's food cold

Whilst bosses try to keep the behind-the-scenes secrets all under wraps, a few things have been leaked by former contestants over the years.

Judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace are always on-hand to give away their expert tips, and of course to taste the food.

However, it's been revealed that the way the judges actually taste the contestants' meals nothing like what you'd expect.

As you can imagine, filming a TV episode takes a while, usually an entire day, and capturing multiple shots of the food takes a long time.

This can of course affect the temperature of the meals, as there's a lot of waiting around and re-shooting.

Super-fans might have noticed that the judges never comment on the temperature of the food, and that's because it's nearly always stone cold.

Former contestants have explained that the production crew can spend up to two whole hours just getting those stunning close-up shots of the meals we see on-screen.

John and Gregg don't miss out on hot food though, as off-camera, the pair eat the food as its being cooked.

They have a little walk around the kitchen as the contestants are working, and taste things as and when they can.

Speaking to Birmingham Live, former MasterChef contestant Rosanna Moseley said: "The food stays there for a bit after you’ve finished so they can get good shots of it.

"So it can be cold by the time the judges get to it - especially if you're last to be judged - but they take that into consideration."

Speaking to Stylist Magazine, brand project manager Jack said of the food: "It’s not piping hot. But John and Gregg are always wandering around when they’re not on camera, trying little bits.

"They get a pretty good idea about the dish in advance, probably more so than when they taste it all together."
