Celebrity Bake Off’s Matt Lucas hits back at fix row as he insists ‘I’m an icon and a national treasure’
LAST minute Bake Off contestant Matt Lucas has been at the centre of favouritism claims.
The comments evidently struck a nerve as the presenter of the baking battle took to Twitter to respond.
The comedian found himself on the other side of the bench for the programme's Stand Up To Cancer specials after a late reshuffle in the line-up.
During Tuesday's instalment of The Great British Bake Off, Matt joined comedian Ed Gamble, rapper Example and DJ Annie Mac to try his hand at baking.
While this was his first attempt since joining the show in 2020, Matt's baking was a hit.
He was also seen receiving help from judge Paul Hollywood with his dough, before receiving a controversial handshake.

This has led to heavy amount of backlash as Matt has been accused of being favoured over other contestants by viewers.
But he's not one to take criticism in silence.
In a post shared on Wednesday, the Rock Profile star clapped back with confidence as he shared his thoughts on Twitter.
"Say what you like", he penned before adding: "I don't care. I got a Hollywood Handshake and I won the Technical. Plus I know where they keep the Star Baker aprons so I'm going to take one anyway."

Proving he didn't have a care in the world about the claims, Matt concluded his post by commenting: "Plus I'm an icon and a national treasure."
Matt stepped into the competition for Love Actually actress Martine McCutcheon.
"I was forced to bake by my bosses at the last minute when one of the bakers became unavailable", Matt said.
"I can't tell you how happy I was that my humiliation was caught on camera."
Although he was unprepared, Matt won the first task of making Arsenal-themed biscuits and some could say he even did better in the following round as he got the coveted Hollywood Handshake.
However, the final round cost Matt his Star Baker apron when Example won the title with an Australian landscape novelty cake.

As he teased, this won't stop Matt from getting his own apron despite his couch cake not being as much of a success as he intended.
