DADDY COOL

Richard Madeley, 65, looks just like Tom Cruise in Top Gun in trendy jacket and shades on a break from GMB

Richard Madeley looked the double of Tom Cruise in Top Gun as he stepped out in a bomber jacket and aviator sunglasses.

The divisive TV presenter, 65, donned the trendy garb as he enjoyed the London sunshine during a break from Good Morning Britain.

Channelling Tom's ultra cool character Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell from the iconic 80s film, Richard looked a world away from his breakfast telly get-up of suits and ties.

The suave fellow paired a Royal Air Force bomber jacket, complete with a logo on the sleeve, with stylish Ray Ban shades, a simple white t-shirt and ripped jeans.

He completed the look with a pair of casual soft brown leather shoes.

Richard sported the eye-catching off-duty look for a trip to a North London branch of Marks & Spencer, where he stocked up on some essentials.

After his shopping trip, the dad of two jumped into his cream convertible Volkswagen Beetle, maintaining his cool credentials with the top down.

Richard looked carefree as he zoomed around the capital's streets, despite a recent GMB interview racking up Ofcom complaints.

Good Morning Britain viewers accused him of "bullying" a climate activist and flooded the broadcasting regulator with more than 500 complaints.

The legendary presenter toughened up as he grilled Just Stop Oil protester Miranda Wheelan during a heated debate about petrol pump protests.

Richard, 65, kicked off the discussion by telling Miranda she had zero support from viewers after her group blocked supply chains and left millions of motorists scrambling for fuel.

The ITV show received 59 complaints as a result of the awkward interview on Monday, which saw Richard brand the group's slogan "childish" and compare Miranda to Little Britain character Vicky Pollard.

Miranda was told to "read the room" by journalist Lowri Turner, who said the protests were poorly timed after the coronavirus pandemic.

She then struggled not to cry after Richard also accused her of being a hypocrite for wearing clothes.

He said: "You'd accept wouldn't you that it's a very complicated discussion to be had? It's a very complicated thing and this 'just stop oil' slogan is very playground-ish, it's very Vicky Pollard, it's quite childish.

"'Just stop oil', I mean come on, there's more to say than that isn't there?" Richard then added.
