Nick Knowles breaks down in tears as dead veteran is honoured by charity on Big House Clearout

NICK Knowles was reduced to tears after a late veteran was honoured during Thursday evening's episode of Big House Clearout.

The Channel 5 show sees the DIY expert and his team totally transform messy homes if the guests agree to get rid of their unwanted clutter.

During Thursday evening's episode, Nick faced the almost impossible task of helping Sarah get rid of an array of possessions.

For Sarah, it would prove to be incredibly tough, with the items all belonging to her husband Trevor, who died aged just 55.

And it didn’t end there as the grieving widow had to get rid of piles of possessions when she had to move back to her old home to live with her daughter Stevie and granddaughter Hermione.

After a few months of struggling with jam-packed rooms, things came to a head.

Sarah lost her husband of 21 years in March of last year when the military veteran suffered a fatal heart attack in Dubai.

The widow, who was living in the Middle East thanks to Trevor’s work visa, had her own permit cancelled, leaving just 30 days for her to pack up and leave the country.

The end result was rooms piled high with belongings, leaving little space for Sarah to grieve.

Soon into the episode, Nick tells her: "I'll make you a promise. You do the tough stuff, get through the emotional bit of getting rid of half your stuff and you’re going to have an amazing house."

Towards the end of the episode, Sarah was informed that a selection of her husband's military collection would be honoured by Forgotten Veterans UK.

Nick, taken aback by the gesture, turned to Sarah and said: "To Trevor, that would have been really important, wouldn't it?"

A representative from the charity then added: "With your permission, we would love to have a photo of your husband and some of the history of his service career.

"So when the vulnerable veterans come through, they can actually look at your husband as an inspiration to keep going in life."

Nick soon burst into tears, revealing: "You've got me choking up now," before waving off the camera and giving Sarah a big hug.
