MasterChef winner reveals Gregg Wallace’s heartwarming gift he gave his terminally-ill dad
MASTERCHEF: The Professionals winner Alex Webb opened up on the sweet gesture from judge Greg Wallace to his sick dad.
The young, ambitious chef rose through the ranks since starting out as a pot washer in his local restaurant to win Masterchef: The Professionals in 2020.
Over the course of the series, Alex grew close to all the cast and judges, but especially Gregg.
His highlight during the season was when the cameras came to visit his family, which had inspired him throughout the series.
“I’d just cooked a dish in memory of my grandad which put me through to the final. To get through on that dish meant a lot," Alex told
“When the cameras came to see my mum and dad it just pushed me to try and win."
His granddad who encouraged him to enter the show passed away before seeing Alex impress the judges.
But his parents Jennifer and Phillip supported him all the way.
Phillip tragically lost a battle with lung cancer earlier this year aged just 61.

“Gregg did a lovely message for my dad when he was in hospital. It was really nice and meant a lot," Alex revealed.
“[Masterchef] is like a big family really.”
The 27-year-old chef knew he wanted to work in a kitchen from an early age.
He started at his local restaurant Square One at just 14, washing pots.

His career has gone full circle - and Alex is now head chef at that same restaurant.
Alex says that French cuisine is his favourite, but he is also partial to Asian flavours.
Alex said about winning Masterchef: "It is the best feeling I have ever had in my life. To walk away with the trophy is incredible. I am so proud."
"I can’t wait to cook and show you all what I can do."
He added: “I want to enjoy the moment and make the most of all
the opportunities which may be out there.
"I have lots of ideas for a book and I really enjoyed the experience of being in front of the camera so would like to look into any chances there may be to do more of this.
