The Best Of series will be pre-recorded in South Africa this summer and will air on the channel in 2023.

Bosses hope they can cherry pick the best contestants from the show’s history for the one-off special.

Gillian's appearance in the 2010 series is one the most memorable in the show’s 21-year run.

She famously fainted while taking part in a Bushtucker Trial, with hosts Ant and Dec having to catch her before she was given oxygen.

During her time in the Australian jungle, Gillian was voted to do a number of Bushtucker trials by the public.

The trial involved Gillian being chained underground and surrounded by rats.

A source said: “Gillian’s performance in 2010 was nothing short of legendary.

"She was high on the hit list when producers decided they were going to do the Best Of series next year.

“She’s all but confirmed now.

"Talks are still ongoing and advanced, but everyone is confident she will put pen to paper and head to South Africa for filming in the next few months.

"It’ll be telly gold.”

The presenter now claims that the challenges Down Under brought on post-traumatic stress disorder.

She said last year: “I definitely still suffer from PTSD.

"Since that jungle trial, the one where I was buried under the ground in a coffin and rats landed on top of me, it still feels like yesterday.

“What has happened is, every time I have to go into a small space like a lift, I feel like I’m going to start screaming.

"I feel an intense rising panic that I simply can’t control.”

Gillian went on to call her condition “uncontrollable”.

She added: “I went in without claustrophobia and came out with it.”
