Max gave The Hammer Throw and synchronised diving a go before running in the men's 400 metres race.

Unfortunately, he suffered an injury during the event and finished in last place with a limp, but fans of The Games were just impressed with his courage.

The launch of the ITV show comes less than five weeks after Max's best friend and Wanted bandmate Tom died from a brain tumour.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: "For Max to even be present for this just shows his immeasurable strength and courage, whatever the results we’ll always be forever proud of you and Tom will be too."

A third added: "Max George has the full wanted family backing him, him participating in this after the loss of Tom is absolutely incredible."

Just 24 hours before making his debut on The Games, Max shared a new photograph of himself and Tom on Instagram.

Max has his arm around his best friend's shoulder in the emotional snap and is giving the camera a thumbs up.

Writing alongside it, he told his 332,000 followers: "Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends leave footprints in your heart."

Max was by Tom's side when he passed away from brain cancer aged 33 on March 30.

Following his friend's tragic death, the grieving star shared an emotional tribute online that left fans in tears.

Within the message, he wrote: "Thank you for choosing me as your friend. It was an honour from day one.

"I’m so grateful I was with you until the very end. The courage and dignity I have witnessed over the last few months surpassed the lion I already knew you were.

"The huge hole now left in my life will forever be there, but I know your spirit will live on through your two beautiful babies, your wonderful wife, our music, your fans and in my heart."

BRAVE FACE

Two weeks later, Max was pictured putting on a brave face as he trained for The Games at an athletics track.

He is among 12 celebrities taking on Olympic-style games throughout this week on ITV1.

Following his first appearance and injury on The Games, Max thanked fans for their support.

Once the show had aired, he tweeted: "Sorry guys… been a tough few days but will hopefully be back tomorrow.

"Your support has been amazing.. and the signs at the event made my day. Much love always and congrats to all the other boys and girls."
