I wish I’d never done Britain’s Got Talent after getting humiliated – it was TV bosses who invited ME, says Joey Howard

JOEY Howard has said he wishes he'd never done Britain's Got Talent after getting buzzed off by all the judges.

The 69-year-old performer - who ripped up a newspaper in a display of comedy origami - says it was the show's producers who invited HIM to appear.

However, the act didn't go to plan, with Joey's act buzzed off by Simon Cowell and co before he could finish.

The Barnsley-based comedian's personal assistant, quoted in , says he went on the show without ever seeing it.

Lynda Harrison, said: "Just setting the record straight, Joey did not apply to be a contestant on Britain’s Got Talent.

"He was invited almost two years ago by a producer for the programme. He has never watched Britain’s Got Talent (but now wishes he had of course!)"

BGT is known to encourage certain acts to come on the show - but they have to audition just like everyone else.

She said she feared he would be "humiliated" adding: "He genuinely saw this as an opportunity to be on the telly and to tread the star-trodden boards of The London Palladium stage before he pops his clogs.

"Unfortunately he wasn’t careful about what he wished for - and got both wishes. But Joey is a philosophical soul and said 'Well - you live and you learn'.

"Perhaps a more relevant quote would have been, 'You die on your a***, then you learn.'

"He wants to thank the many wonderful messages of support and commiseration he has received from his mates in the business who genuinely know what he is capable of, a lot asking the same question; “Why the hell did you do it?”

"Joey’s reply, “Exactly - why the bloody hell did I?” All is fair in love, war and Britain's Got Talent."

The act got off to a sticky start when he got a muted response from the crowd, saying: "I know you're out there, I can hear you breathing."

He told them: "Tonight I'm going to perform for you from Japan the Japanese art of ori... origami. So ladies and gentlemen, Japanese paper folding. Hit me!"

At that, music struck up and his act - which saw him ripping up a paper apparently in a display of origami, only to use the wad to fix his 'wobbly' mic stand - began.

However, he got buzzed off, first by Amanda Holden, then Alesha Dixon.

Then, taking to the drums he was buzzed by both Simon and David Walliams at the same time.

Some fans insisted his act was usually superb, with one writing: "That was a big shame for Joey, as my daughter and myself used to see him every week when he was at Pontins Bournemouth for a summer season and he is a very funny comedian normally!!"

Anther wrote: "Watched him with my family at a hotel, and he was hilarious."

A third said: "Come on guys, don't buzz like that. That person may have made a lot people smile in his prime. You could have said No politely."
