Doctor Who hires trans star Yasmin Finney to join show after signing Ncuti Gatwa as the 14th Time Lord
DOCTOR Who has hired trans actor Yasmin Finney to star on the new series.
She is best known for her role as trans schoolgirl Elle Argent on hit Netflix romantic drama, Heartstopper.
Yasmin, 18, will play Rose - the same name of the former companion played by Billie Piper opposite David Tennant’s doctor, who were last seen together 12 years ago.
But it’s not clear if she’ll be the companion to the new doctor, played by Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, 29.
It was announced last week that he would take over control of the Tardis from outgoing time traveller Jodie Whittaker, 39.
Yasmin, who grew up in Manchester and has had 12 million views of her YouTube videos, said: “If anyone would have told eight year old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them.

“This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell, has not only made my year, it’s made my life.
“I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get Ready.”

New showrunner Russell T Davies said: “Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose?
"You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set.
