Good Morning Britain fans are all saying the same thing as Richard Madeley disappears off-screen today

GOOD Morning Britain fans were thrilled to see Ben Shephard replace Richard Madeley on today's breakfast show.

Viewers were left disgruntled this week after host Richard made a “short-sighted” comment about poverty.

The 66-year-old disappeared off-screen today, with Ben stepping in alongside Kate Garraway.

One fan remarked: "BBC got rid of Dan Walker, GMB needs to dump Richard Madeley.

"This preening peacock is going to drop you right in it with one of his series of heartless, thoughtless major gaffes."

Another insisted: "Don’t watch it on mon, Tues and Wednesday, when he is on, BBC on those days!!"

Someone else suggested: "There are too many adverse comments about this person, GMB would be better to just get rid of the man with his arrogant attitude, put a person more suited to the job in his slot."

Praising his replacements, another said: "Thank god Ben and Kate worth watching."

But other fans of TV legend Richard slammed those trying to get him sacked.

One said: "So one or two don’t agree with him so want him axed? Seems to be the way of the world in 2022. People need to get a grip."

Another joked: "Let's just Ban all TV, cause in this day and age there's too many wet wipes upset by the slightest thing ffs."

Veteran broadcaster Richard took over the job nine months after the departure of Piers Morgan, who has now launched a new show on TalkTV.

However, Richard has been taking days off more frequently in recent weeks, after admitting his future on the show is uncertain.

He typically presents the show alongside Susanna Reid from Monday to Wednesday.

Fans have noticed an ongoing 'feud' between the pair - with Susanna making a cheeky dig about him yesterday.

But viewers were upset this week by Richard's comments - first when discussing the cost of living crisis and then when he insisted people should get back to the office.

Rachel Maclean, safeguarding minister in the Home Office said people needed to “protect themselves better”, adding "whether that is by taking on more hours or moving to a better-paid job”.

Debating her comments today, Richard asked: “Do you think that she has got a point? That we are too quick as a society, largely because of social media to jump on the heads of people who are going into areas that are controversial but some people say need saying.

“In other words ‘God helps people who help themselves’. It’s an old saying but it has a degree of wisdom to it, hasn’t it?”

One viewer said: "Most celebrities can't put themselves in a poverty life... they get so many opportunities to make a living... in their world... he's not the only one... they get talk shows, voice overs... advertisements, new game shows... life's the limit... but as celebrities call us "ordinary people " we don't get that chance of celebrity choosing!!

Others stood up for the TV legend, saying: "I don’t particularly like him but he has the right to his opinion. When you have generations of families who have never worked and think a career is living on benefits then as a society we have a problem."
