NBC News correspondent Harry Smith joined the Today hosts to share the story of a young woman who received a cochlear implant when she was younger and is now a graduating doctor.

Meghan Westman was one of the youngest to receive the implant at just one and a half years old, and now she’s helping others with hearing loss.

In the story, Meghan shared her journey with Harry and opened up about why it was so important for her to become a doctor and pay it forward.

After the news video played, the Today hosts came back into view and Hoda was visibly overcome with emotion.

She was breaking down in tears over Meghan’s touching story.

Everyone clapped for the news video they’d just watched, while Carson Daly also pat Hoda on the back to help console her.

“Hoda's all choked up here,” he said as she worked to stop her tears.

The 57-year-old told the NBC correspondent: “Beautiful story, Harry. As always.”

He pointed at her in a response and said sweetly: “Tears in your eyes!”

She replied: “Of course. A Harry story, of course I do.”

Hoda’s never been one to shy away from her emotions on the show and shed some tears earlier this week, as well.

She broke down while opening up to Today co-host Jenna Hager Bush about being a 57-year-old mother of young children.

Mom to daughters Haley, five, and Hope, three, Hoda revealed she’s been thinking a lot about how much time she has left together with them.

The 57-year-old opened up to Jenna: “I’m not embarrassed to be my age, I’m happy I’m my age.

"It’s the perfect storm of my life - two kids, this time, this job.

"Someone said, ’It gets greater later.’ It does…but in between, there are these moments that you feel an ouch.”

While it doesn’t bother her much when others wonder if she’s “too old to be [her young kids’] mother,” those comments stir up other concerns inside of her.

Breaking down In tears, Hoda shared: “I think I was thinking, one of the scary parts about being an older mom is wondering how much time you have.

“That is a big thought and worry.

“You do the math a lot and that’s something I don’t like doing because it’s scary.”

What helped was when her mom came to visit, and Hoda was able to look at her mother and think, “At least 30 years more” she’ll have with her two daughters.

“That’s 35 for for Haley and 33 for Hope,” the host added. “That makes me feel very full.”

With watery eyes, TODAY's Jenna smiled for her co-host and her breakthrough thought process.

She later told Hoda that she can’t believe some people would go up to her and say she’s too old to have such young kids because she sees her as “a teenager.”

The 40-year-old continued: “I know it’s weird, but I actually don’t even know your exact age, but that’s because I’m terrible at birthdays.

“But I look at you like a vibrant light that’s ageless.”
