Dave exaggerated the ‘u’ as ‘ooo,’ calling it 'Proo-doh,' in stark contrast to how residents say it.

Taking to Twitter, one disgruntled Geordie posted: "Never heard such an odd way of saying Prudhoe. And believe me, I've heard some belters."

Echoing their comments, someone else said: "Dave Lamb has just pronounced Prudhoe as 'Proodhoe' - it's 'Prudah'."

While a third remarked: “Every Northumbrian just had a tiny violent reaction.”

After a hotly contested battle between the three restaurants, it was Balls who triumphed after the scores were delivered.

And the result generated quite a response on social media.

In reference to a certain Midlands fish and chip shop becoming a viral sensation, one fan wrote: "I hope Balls of Prudhoe becomes the new Bingley Mega Chippy.
