Where is Jon Kay? BBC Breakfast presenter’s whereabouts revealed
Plus a look at who came to the rescue
BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay has finally broken his silence over why he’s been missing for so long.
The star usually hosts BBC Breakfast with Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday.
Where was Jon Kay and why was he not on BBC Breakfast?
Jon Kay has been absent since March 25, 2024 – but was back on the sofa on April 8.
And the top presenter has finally revealed the reason why.
The BBC Breakfast star has been enjoying a well-deserved holiday during the Easter break with his family.
However, not everything went as planned.
Posting on social media, the journalist told fans he had spent the last few days in picturesque Cornwall.
However, the trip wasn’t as relaxing as the 54-year-old was hoping for, as he posted a picture of himself caked in mud.
He explained to fans: “Flat tyre. Rained every day.
“As you can see, I fell over in a muddy ditch (and then pretended it was a deliberate April Fool – nobody was fooled) but we had a lovely spring break.”
Jon has been missing from BBC Breakfast on a number of occasions over the past few weeks.
In March he missed several editions of the show, with Ben Thompson stepping in for him.
Who was his replacement?
When the programme began on Monday, March 25, 2024, Sally was seen sitting alongside Ben Thompson.
Despite officially quitting the morning show in 2022, Ben is often seen on the iconic red sofa filling in for missing presenters.
In December 2021, the journalist posted that he would be hanging up his “hard hat” after joining in 2011.
He said he’d be moving back to the global channel BBC World as he also thanked those who let them do stories on them.
He also joked that now he’d be able to avoid the cold and rain but will be keeping the BBC Breakfast sofa warm on some occasions.
When did Jon Kay join BBC Breakfast?
The broadcaster joined the BBC in 1992 and has worked his way up the ranks.
On July 8, 2022, Jon said of his appointment to the full time BBC Breakfast co-anchor role: “I’m over the moon to become the new regular presenter of BBC Breakfast and I’m looking forward to bringing our brilliant viewers the very latest news each morning alongside my good friend Sally and the rest of the team.
“Sitting on the famous red sofa is a real privilege while covering the stories and issues that matter to our audience – home and abroad.”
BBC Breakfast editor Richard added: “Jon is a brilliant broadcaster who can turn his hand to hard-hitting news stories, celebrity interviews and everything in between.
“Already a member of the BBC Breakfast family, we are thrilled to have him join the team as a regular presenter.”
