Speaking to GMB hosts Ranvir Singh and Ed Balls today, Laura, 41, said: "Honestly it's not scaremongering, this is exceptionally serious.

"First of all it is a national emergency. And that has been declared not just by the MET office, but by the NHS, the Government, the roads and travel industry.

"The big thing is it's not just the daytime temperatures, it's the night-time temperatures as well.

"Anytime temperatures go over 35 we increase our deaths, we're likely to see those increasing throughout the day.

Fans were unimpressed last week with Susanna Reid and Laura's remarks on the weather, and accused them of "scaremongering".

They took to Twitter again today to remark on Laura's report.

One said: "That weather presenter on #GMB , is spreading fear for no reason! What do they do in America, hide away ."

A second penned: "GMB going for full on Armageddon regarding regarding the weather this morning. Yes of course it's a problem, of course it isn't just 'summer' and people need to be sensible however this coverage is totally over the top….."

A third moaned: "Holy s**t - Will you stop with the preaching about the weather. Every flaming five minutes. All the joy is now been taken out of summer."

However, others were distracted by Laura in her red dress which matched her weather charts.

One said: "Ms Tobin looking as hot as the weather this morning"
