I was on Wife Swap as a kid – bosses made out I was an addict aged 10 and set me up for rows with adults

Posting in 2021, he wrote: "I was on Wife Swap when I was 10 years old.

"My family had to switch with a farming family and we were supposed to be the ‘city family’ even though my family and I lived in the suburbs."

He and his family appeared on season three, episode 13 of the show.

The Reddit user was part of the Koopman Family from New York, who swapped with the Early family from Texas.

A fun-loving aspiring model from New York swaps lives with a conservative woman who helps raise her granddaughters on a Texas farm.

He explained that the show was very produced, and in true reality TV fashion: "there were plenty of quotes taken out of context as you’d expect".

The most shocking narrative that bosses weaved into the episode was framing the 10-year-old as a video game addict.

He explained that "they [the producers] also incited plenty of drama.

"I was framed as addicted to video games so they took my xbox and gameboy color for the week."

The show's format sees two wives swap families, and the 'new' wife creates her own set of rules for the new family to follow, which is when the Reddit user's consoles were taken away.

However, he explained that producers deliberately set him up.

"A few days in one of the crew members came in with my gameboy and said 'look I found this' and handed it to me," he said.

"It shouldn’t be surprising that they sent the woman staying in our house into my room to ‘catch me in the act’."

Sup3rrn0va was only young when he was on the show, and admitted: "to be honest not much has really changed in my life except getting snapchats of my 10 year old face when my friends catch the reruns," adding that: "I’m open to any questions if anyone is curious."

He also revealed how much his family were paid for the episode, recalling that: "The initial amount was $20k but after taxes it came to around $15k".
