The Crown to end with explosive final scene featuring controversial royal wedding
THE Royal Family’s Megxit drama may be set to feature on a follow-up to Netflix hit The Crown.
The streaming service’s bosses are keen for showrunner Peter Morgan, 59, to go further with the global TV sensation.
He previously said the story of the Windsors would conclude with season six next year. Season five will air in November.
But now the show’s creators have changed the ending of the final series — leaving it open for a sequel focussing on Prince Charles and his sons William and Harry.
The original plan was to end the storyline in 2002 — a momentous year in which the Queen lost her sister, Princess Margaret, and her mother.
Instead, it will now wind down with the 2005 wedding of Charles and Camilla.
MORE ON HARRY AND MEGHAN
A TV insider said: “It’s a small but significant shift because it’s seen as marking the start of an era which becomes more focussed on Princes William and Harry and their father.
"The marriage of Charles and Camilla is treated like the end of one turbulent period in the Windsors’ story, and the start of a whole new one.”
Continuing the story beyond 2005 provides huge scope, with almost two decades of royal history to draw on.
They include key moments for the Windsors including Megxit, Prince Andrew’s fall from grace and the death of Prince Philip.

Rumours for further seasons also include going back to the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 and up to Edward VIII’s 1936 abdication crisis.
