But as temperatures reached an all-time high, Emmerdale resident Leyla Cavanagh were baffled to see her wearing a coat.

Soap fans are scratching their heads after noticing many residents wearing outerwear despite the scorching temperatures off-screen.

These village residents include Leyla Cavanagh who was caught preparing a line of cocaine by her former partner David Metcalfe.

The wedding planner portrayed by Roxy Shahidi has been harbouring a secret addiction to drugs for several weeks on end but her vice is slowly coming out in the open.

But as she prepared her line, viewers took to Twitter to comment on her choice of clothing.

Leyla and David were both wearing coats in their scenes amid a huge heatwave.

Temperatures in Britain reached higher than 40 degrees for the first time on record.

"Leyla you do need help - you're wearing a coat in a 40 degree heatwave!", one of them penned.

Another complained: "Catching up on Emmerdale and it’s making me feel really uncomfortable."

"So even though no two summers 'weather wise' are the same, one thing you can guarantee in July, is, its not coat weather. All the actors are wearing jackets, one is wearing a puffer."

A fourth viewer quipped: "It's going to be hilarious in October when they are all walking round in T-shirts looking sweaty!"
