Love Island’s Tasha breaks down in tears a lot because of hidden side effect of her disability, says her dad

TASHA Ghouri’s dad has shared the extra work that she puts in on Love Island that leaves her in tears.

Tarek, 55, opened up how Tasha's hearing impairment puts "extra pressure on her that the other Islanders don't have."

The proud dad described that while her cochlear implant was great to help her hear the "technology isn't perfect" because "it doesn't allow us to hear like we can hear each other."

"It's constantly got a little buzz to it, which Tasha said she can hear," he told The Sun in an exclusive chat.

"The other ear she can't hear anything. It isn't the holy grail.

"So because it's got a microphone at the front, if someone's talking behind her the chances are the sound waves aren't going to go around back and hit the front of this thing."

Tarek added: "She has to try and use all her senses and be alert all the time, which is really grating."

Being in the villa means Tasha is also wearing her cochlear implant in which she doesn't normally do "because she likes to just get it off and rest her brain."

"I think that's even extra tiring for her. And generally when people are talking, she relies on lipreading more than people realise," Tarek explained.

"So she has to combine the sound being processed in the cochlear and lip reading, and other forms of communication - body language, facial expressions, that kind stuff.

"And then if she can't get that, then it's difficult for her to grasp what's being said."

Even when people are drinking in can changed the shape of their mouths and "when lots of people are talking it's almost impossible for her to tune in on one voice. It will always be the closest one to her."

Tarek said: "So mentally she's trying to do all this at the same time. She's got this added extra pressure that the other islanders don't have.

"And that spills over into emotional tiredness and tears. And so it was a bit kind of hard for to me to watch that because I understood why she was so emotional."

Tasha's dad said she's learnt to "handle" using the implant in daily life, but the Love Island villa is "an extreme situation because you've got a closed environment with lots of people, lots of energy, lots of young people with loads of energy. And talking and shouting."

"It's a bit more that she would get normally if she was going on a modelling assignment with Asos, as an example. "

Tarek revealed was in touch with the care team at ITV who touch base with Tasha.

"I understand she's in very good emotional spirit and mentally fine as well, so there's very good care from them," he said.

The care team will keep Tarek updated but also check on his mental health.

"It's not just about Tasha, they kind of look after us [Islander's families] too," he said.

Tarek also opened up that while Tasha was mainly on Love Island to find a partner, she also in there for representation.

"She's done a lot of work with deaf kids, just on her own back with the talkswithtasha Instagram page," he said, revealing :she's inundated with messages from people, 'I aspire to be like you and thank you. You've shown me it's okay to be proud about this thing on my ear'."
