Kate Garraway forced to extend time off GMB after husband Derek’s ‘very serious turn’ as she misses second week

KATE Garraway will be missing from Good Morning Britain for a second week running after her husband Derek's "very serious turn".

The popular presenter, 55, has been forced to extend her time off to be by his bedside.

Derek was rushed back into hospital last week as he continues to struggle with major health problems after he contracted Covid in 2020.

Kate has tirelessly juggled caring for the 54-year-old while working her TV and radio jobs, as well as raising their two children, Darcey, 16, and Billy, 12.

The Sun revealed last week he'd been admitted for specialist care after a setback in his recovery, according to those close to Kate's family.

Today it's been confirmed she will not return to present Good Morning Britain alongside her co-host Ben Shephard this Thursday and Friday as she remains focussed on her former Labour adviser husband.

It is hoped she'll return to her presenting duties as soon as possible.

Lorraine Kelly sent her support to her ITV pal Kate last week as news broke Derek was back in hospital.

She said on her show: "I just wanted to say, we are obviously sending all of our love to our Kate.

"I know a lot of you have seen in the newspapers and online that Derek is back in hospital and obviously, you know, battling the effects after Covid

"We just want to send our love to them, don't we?"

Lorraine added: "She's amazing. Not one to complain or say 'why me?' or any of that. She's incredible."

Derek became the nation’s longest suffering patient after spending 13 months in hospital.

Kate secretly flew Derek to North America for a ground-breaking medical trial in November.

A Good Morning Britain spokesman told The Sun: "Kate is taking some time off work over the next few days, and is hoping to be back to her normal presenting duties as soon as possible."
