TV schedule changes: Which shows are not on after the Queen’s death?

TV SCHEDULES in Britain saw major changes in the wake of the death of the Queen.

After the sad passing of Her Majesty, regular programming was disrupted to allow for extra news coverage and tributes.

Which TV shows are not on after the Queen's passing?

Following the news of the Queen's death on September 8, 2022, broadcasting schedules in the UK were subject to change.

This was so that TV stations could reflect news coverage and tributes.

This also saw regular TV shows moved or postponed to reflect the country being in a period of mourning.

On Monday, September 19, 2022, UK broadcasters aired the state funeral of the Queen.

Tuesday, September 20, 2022

TV schedules return to usual programming, with all regular shows back on air.

BBC One sees the return of EastEnders in its usual 7.30pm slot, which is followed by Celebrity MasterChef at 8pm.

On ITV, in a bid to catch up with missed episodes, there will be a double bill of Emmerdale from 7pm, which is followed by a double bill of Coronation Street at 8pm.

As The Suspect didn't air yesterday (September 19, 2022) the missed episode will air at 9pm.

Channel 4 also resumes its usual schedule.

The Queen's funeral is set to dominate the TV schedule today with BBC, ITV and Sky News leading the coverage.

On the BBC, Huw Edwards, Kirsty Young, Fergal Keane, David Dimbleby and Sophie Raworth will be leading the coverage, broadcasting from across the UK.

The special programme will air from 8 am to 5 pm on BBC One, BBC Two and iPlayer and BSL coverage on BBC Two.

For ITV, broadcasters Tom Bradby and Julie Etchingham will helm the coverage.

Their programming will begin at 9.30 am and will cover the funeral service, which will take place at Westminster Abbey.

ITV will also track the Queen's final journey to Windsor as well as the committal service at St George's Chap

Sky News, the special programme will start at 5 am as Her Majesty’s Lying-in-State comes to an end.

Kamali Melbourne will be live from Westminster Abbey, before Kay Burley takes over from 7am.

Anna Botting and Dermot Murnaghan will take over for a special broadcast of the funeral procession from 9 am.

Over on Channel 4, a number of programmes will air to pay tribute to the Queen, including a classic 1993 documentary about her coronation and 1943 Vera Lynn film, We’ll Meet Again.

There will also be two extended editions of Channel 4 News.

TV channels are also expected to observe the two-minute silence at 11.55 am as a mark of respect to the late monarch.

ITV are leaving most of the royal coverage for the evening, starting the day off with Good Morning Britain at 6am and running till 9.30am.

Love Your Weekend With Alan Titchmarsh will follow after that, before the EFL highlights at 11.25am, as football returned this weekend.

They will air their first ITV News broadcast of the day at 1.20pm.

Then there will be a run of programmes as follows:

  • You've Been Framed at 1.30pm
  • Ainsley's Caribbean Kitchen at 2pm
  • Simply Raymond Blanc at 2.30pm
  • James Martin's Great British Adventure 3pm
  • Dickinson's Real Deal Winners at 3.30pm
  • Tipping Point: Lucky Stars at 4pm
  • Ninja Warrior UK at 5pm

Then there will be another news bulletin at 6pm, followed by Gino's Italy: Like Mamma Used to Make.

The Coronation Street episode that was supposed to air on Friday, September 16, will be airing on this day at 7pm.

It will be followed by Queen Elizabeth II: National Silence at 7.55pm.

Then an episode of Ridley will air at 8.05pm before another news bulletin at 10pm.

After that there will be an episode of Bradley and Barney: Breaking Dad at 10.20pm and then the highlights of the Gallagher Premiership Rugby at 10.45pm.

The ITV schedule for this day will end with a documentary, The Queen Remembered at 11.45pm.

Meanwhile, BBC One will be adding episodes of Wanted Down Under at 11am and Bargain Hunt at 12.15pm to the Sunday Schedule, just before Songs of Praise: Hymns in Tribute to Her Majesty at 1.45pm.

In the afternoon, viewers can tune in for Garden Rescue at 3.15pm and then an episode of Countryfile at 6pm which will be titled Queen & Country: Windsor.

At 7pm, BBC One will broadcast The Eve of the State Funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II and after that a National Minute's Silence for the Queen at 8pm.

After that, Frozen Planet II and Bloodland will air.

On BBC Two, viewers can catch Match of the Day at 7.50am and BBC News at 11am.

The Match of the Day Live: Women's Super League - Aston Villa vs Manchester City has move from BBC One to BBC Two at 12.15pm.

BBC Two will also be observing the minute of silence at 8pm and then broadcast the Women's International Cricket Highlights: England vs India.

Saturday, September 17, 2022

ITV has regular programming throughout the day, with the exception of an extended ITV News at 5:30pm.

ITV's Saturday morning viewing kicks off with James Martin's Saturday Morning at 9:25am, running until 11:35am.

Then, John and Lisa's Weekend Kitchen returns for an hour, before James Martin's Great British Adventure at 12:35pm.

After this Gino's Italy: Like Mamma Used To Make will be on at 1:10pm, just in time for lunchtime.

A ten minute ITV news will kick off the afternoon viewing, followed by Ainsley's Caribbean Kitchen at 1:45pm.

Regular programming will continue throughout the afternoon, with an episodes of Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals, Catchphrase, and Ninja Warrior: Race For Glory.

These are followed by an extended ITV news at 5:30pm, which will run for an hour and 20 minutes before the Regional News at 6:50pm.

ITV scheduled peak time programming will continue as normal, with popular reality shows, The Masked Dancer at 7pm, The Voice UK at 8:30pm, and game show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? at 10pm.

Another ITV news will air at 10:55 and the day's programming will finish with EFL highlights from 11:20pm.

Friday, September 16, 2022

ITV has normal programming until 10am when they will switch to a news special which will cover King Charles III tour to Wales.

This means This Morning and Loose Women have been cancelled.

Normal programming resumes at 1.30pm until 6.30pm, when there will be an extended ITV News special, which is on until 8pm.

After this Emmerdale will air a double from 8pm, but there is no Coronation Street.

The new series of Professor T begins at 9pm.

Over on the BBC, from 10am BBC One will be covering the King's tour until 2pm, when there will be the national news and local news coverage before a News Special at 2.45pm.

Normal programming resumes at 3.30pm.

The One Show continues with their special tribute called Our Queen Remembered.

EastEnders has been cancelled to make way for the Queen's Vigil at 7,30pm.

At 9pm you can watch the first episode of Celebrity MasterChef finals week.

Meanwhile, Homes Under The Hammer, Doctors, and Escape To The Country will now air on BBC Two.

BBC Two then has news from 3.45pm until 6pm when the evening schedule kicks off with Richard Osman's House of Games.

BBC One resumes normal broadcasting throughout the day.

The One Show returns to its 7pm slot and continues with their special tribute called Our Queen Remembered.

EastEnders is also back to its normal time of 7.30pm, followed by The Repair Shop at 8pm.

The only change is that Ambulance has been cancelled to make way for a double bill of Celebrity MasterChef, which starts at 8.30pm.

Meanwhile, BBC Two is airing news from 1.45pm until 6pm when schedule is back to normal with Richard Osman's House of Games.

ITV resumes normal programming throughout the day, and sees the return of Loose Women.

Moving into the evening, as the NTAs have been postponed, ITV will no longer be showing the big event.

Instead they will be showing extra episodes of the soaps - Emmerdale will be aired from 7.30pm until 9pm.

Then from 9pm until 10pm, ITV will air a double bill of Coronation Street.

Channel 4 programming continues as usual.

On ITV, GMB runs from 6am as usual, with Lorraine taking over from 9am.

There is a slight change to the This Morning schedule, and there will be an extended show from 10am until 1pm, and will presented by regular hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

However, this means Loose Women is cancelled again.

From 1pm until 6pm there is an extended ITV News Special which will cover Queen Elizabeth II - Lying In State.

After that usual programming resumes - with the news, the soaps and Doc Martin all airing as per original scheduling.

Emmerdale airs at 7.30pm with an hour long Coronation Street from 8pm.

BBC One continues with rolling news all day, and coverage of the Queen's procession to Lying In State.

EastEnders will be on, but at the later time of 8.30pm and The One Show has been cancelled.

The final episode - and last ever - of TV crime drama Shetland airs at 9pm.

Usual BBC One shows like Homes Under The Hammer, Doctors, Escape To The Country, and Bargain Hunt will now air on BBC Two.

Channel 4 programming continues as usual.

The BBC continues with a changed schedule for rolling news coverage and special programming from 6am.

The schedule for BBC One includes live coverage of King Charles III's visit to Northern Ireland - which will start from 11.15am.

In the evening The One Show will continue with their special tribute, called The One Show: Our Queen Remembered, which airs at the later time of 9pm.

EastEnders will be on, but at the later time of 9.30pm, and Celebrity MasterChef has been cancelled again.

BBC Two's programming sees many shows such as Homes Under The Hammer, Doctors, Escape To The Country and The Bidding Room moving from BBC One.

The third episode of All That Glitters - which should have aired on the day of the Queen's death - has been rescheduled to 9pm on BBC Two.

Over on ITV, morning programming remains the same but Loose Women has been cancelled to cover the King's Northern Ireland visit.

At 4pm this will be followed by Queen Elizabeth - Return To The Palace.

Emmerdale returns at a later time of 8.35pm, and Charles, The Monarch And The Man airs at 9.05pm.

Heading to Channel 4 and programming resumes as normal, which includes Steph's Packed Lunch at 12.30pm.

The BBC has announced an altered TV schedule with both BBC One and BBC Two seeing changes in response to the death of the Queen Elizabeth II.

The schedule for the BBC includes live coverage of King Charles III's visit to the Palace of Westminster in HM the King: Westminster Tributes, Scotland: A Service for HM the Queen, and Scotland: The Vigil.

The One Show will air with a special tribute, called The One Show: Our Queen Remembered.

EastEnders, The Capture, and Countryfile all remain the same.

ITV's Lorraine has been dropped from the schedule with Good Morning Britain set to air for four hours instead.

Following this, ITV News Special will present Queen Elizabeth II: Lying At Rest and will run throughout the afternoon. 

This means Loose Women has also been dropped from the line-up.

Channel 4's airs Steph's Packed Lunch as normal.

BBC's programming will include changes to Countryfile - this will instead be a Queen and Country Balmoral special.

However, the BBC will then be showing Antiques Roadshow and The Capture as normal.

ITV's Emmerdale will air, replacing Celebrity Lingo - however repeats of Ninja Warrior and Tipping Point will not air and instead programming will be focused on the queen's coverage.

Ridley will return to ITV for it's third episode this evening, but viewers will not be able to watch Bradley and Barney Walsh- Breaking Dad at 10.15pm - as the programme will not air.

Channel 4 will air Celeb SAS: Who Dares Wins as normal.

Despite changes in most TV schedules, ITV's The Masked Dancer and The Voice UK will still be airing on Saturday, September 10, 2022 - during the evening.

However, BBC have announced that Saturday’s Proms is amongst the weekend shows being cancelled - this is the first time since WW2 that the final concert has not taken place at all.

BBC have confirmed that the schedules will be subject to change during the period of national mourning.

BBC One's schedule has been wiped and instead, a slate of special programming will air instead.

This means that many of the channel's most popular shows, including EastEnders, Doctors, Bargain Hunt and Garden Rescue have been moved across to BBC Two.

The shows that were previously set to air on BBC Two during the day have been pulled from the schedule.

Celebrity MasterChef has also been removed from scheduling - the date in which it will re-air is yet to be confirmed.

The episode was due to have special guest Dame Mary Berry and the contestants were due to cook a dish dedicated to Her Majesty the Queen in celebration of the platinum jubilee.

ITV is also airing its own special coverage of the Queen, which means daytime TV such as This Morning, Loose Women and Lorraine will not be on.

Some channels will also not be showing any adverts.

Channel 4 and ITV announced that they would not air any adverts until at least the end of Friday.

Why are TV programmes cancelled?

Some TV programmes have been cancelled due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

TV schedules will now change following this with changes such as no comedy programmes being aired.

She passed away aged 96 after becoming Britain's longest reigning monarch.

The Queen reigned for 70 years and celebrated her Platinum Jubilee this year.

The United Kingdom is in a period of mourning and a series of events occur during this.
