Filming Coronation Street left me so nervous I couldn’t sleep, admits Spider Nugent star Martin Hancock
CORONATION star Martin Hancock has revealed he was left unable to sleep and nervous while filming the soap.
The 53-year-old actor has reprised his role in the ITV show but opened up about the 'abuse' he received the first time around.
Spider Nugent, who is Emily Bishop's nephew and an on-off love interest of Toyah Battersby, last appeared in 2003.
However, he made his return to the cobbles earlier this year and immediately hooked up with Toyah.
Speaking about his return this time around, Martin told The Sun he's a lot "older and wiser and calmer".
"It’s been really very pleasant and lovely, working with Georgia [Taylor] again and Jane [Danson]," he said.
"I do really really love working with them. And a lot of the crew are the same as well, so it’s lovely seeing everyone again. It’s all very positive."

He continued: "In public, it's been really nice. It’s not been as abusive as the first time around, so far! People have been very very kind, and they are really happy to see Spider back.
"I think people are quite concerned that I make sure Toyah’s okay. Everyone is very concerned about Toyah."
Toyah's world is set to be rocked after it was revealed Spider is an undercover cop and has been hiding it from her.

The actor also admitted he had sleepless nights and worried about his return to the long-running soap.
"I did have sleepless nights, and I was very, very nervous.
"And then, my first day back before we actually started filming, I came in for orientation because obviously, it's a new studio from the one that I was at."
Coronation Street airs on ITV and is available on ITV Hub.
