Maisam, 18, Greater Manchester, Student & Sales Assistant
Originally from Libya, Maisam has lived in the UK since she was nine.
She speaks five languages and aims to make that seven by the time she turns 20.
Maisam has a strong creative streak, spending her spare time photographing still-lifes and the world around her.
She has been baking since she was about 13 years old, and she loves the science required to get a bake right – often trying something multiple times until it is perfect.
Her favourite flavours are inspired by her Mediterranean heritage – she loves the tang of olives, the sweetness of dates and the nuttiness of sesame seeds.
Thin-shamed
GBBO's Matt Lucas has talked off the hilarious moment he was 'thin-shamed' by a fan.
Matt reunited on screen with with Noel Fielding, 49, Prue Leith, 82, and Paul Hollywood, 56, on the show and fans could not stop talking about his weight loss.
He previously said he had to "do something about his weight" after getting bigger during lockdown.
Last year he told Lorraine Kelly: "I lost some weight, I needed to take the edge off, because I put on a lot of weight in lockdown.
The host also added: "Shout out to the lady who stopped me at football today to ask me why I've lost weight and to inform me I look a lot older.
"For the first time in my life, I think I've just been thin-shamed."
Sandro's sad start
The handsome baker had a traumatic start in life, as he and his mum had to flee Angola, where he was born, as war ravaged the African country.
Angola was locked in a civil war from 1975 which continued, with interludes, until 2002.
Sandro was born in 1992, but in 1993 fighting raged the whole year as the government gradually regained territory and won greater support abroad.
The family later moved to London and Sandro - a keen boxer who also has a background in ballet and breakdancing - turned to baking as a form of therapy.
Sandro's secret heartbreak
BAKE Off contestant Sandro had to flee his war-torn homeland with his mum when he was just two years old.
The 30-year-old nanny is one of 12 new bakers entering the Bake Off tent this month.
Hard to digest
GBBO fans were less than impressed when chocolate was allowed to be used in the garibaldi biscuits during the challenge.
Fans complained about it on Twitter.
One said: "#GBBO since when do you put chocolate on a garibaldi biscuit and it's only supposed to be currants not cranberries!! How dare they."
Another said: "Chocolate?? On a garibaldi biscuit?? In this economy??? #GBBO"
A third said: "I don't think anyone should be judged harshly for not being able to make chocolate covered Garibaldi biscuits when they are, in fact, not a thing #gbbo"
Who was the star baker this week?
Maxy, 29, London, Architectural Assistant
Swedish-born Maxy studied fine art and went on to achieve a Masters degree in architecture, pausing her final qualifications to raise her two daughters, Tyra and Talia.
She has DIY-ed every corner of her flat – from laying the flooring and resurfacing the balcony to painting the walls and hanging her own artwork.
She began baking five years ago, with the arrival of her first daughter, and uses her strong artistic skills to create beautifully decorated celebration cakes.
Her favourite flavours link to her Scandinavian upbringing – the sweet and delicate spice of cardamom and saffron buns and cinnamon rolls.
