The bakers have to keep their involvement in the show secret from the moment they are picked right up until their departure from the tent.

This means months of secrecy from friends, family and colleagues, and former contestant Dan Chambers has revealed how hard it is.

Dan took part in series 10 of Bake Off in 2019 but sadly became the first baker to be voted off.

He told "The lead-up to the show was really stressful.

“Really horrible actually, you can’t tell anybody, and I was sticking to that.”

Dan also revealed that despite being sent home from the competition, he had to stay an extra night at the hotel near the filming location.

This is because filming for the first weekend is five days long, with contestants arriving at the hotel on the Thursday before filming over the weekend and then having their publicity pictures taken on the Monday.

Dan said: "You’ve got all those photos to take when you’ve already gone.

“It felt weird because I look back at those photos knowing I had already left.”

The baker also told the publication how the contestants had a WhatsApp group to share how everyone was doing in the competition after people had left.

Meanwhile, Dan lifted the lid on what filming was like and explained how judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith come into the tent at certain times.

However the presenters - who at the time of his series were Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding - are there all the time.

Speaking about Noel, Dan said: "He would just say anything he wanted to and it might not have been quite appropriate.”
